MLB: ***2022 MLB SEASON THREAD***

Hitting the quarter post of the season about now. Playoffs if the season ended today - 12 teams make it now:

AL:
First round byes: (1) New York Yankees, (2) Houston
(6) Toronto at (3) Minnesota
(5) Tampa Bay at (4) Los Angeles Angels

NL:
First round byes: (1) Los Angeles Dodgers, (2) New York Mets
(6) San Francisco at (3) Milwaukee
(5) St. Louis at (4) San Diego

Not only does the AL East have 2 of the 3 wild card teams in that league but Boston is 8-2 in their last 10 - best recent record in MLB. Killer division, tough time to be an Orioles fan.

Yeah they would here because there is no re-seeding. The 1 seed plays the 4/5 winner and the 2 seed plays the 3/6 winner no matter what. So you could end up with a 1 seed playing the best wild card team and the 2 seed getting the worst.

Also these first round series are best of 3 with the whole series played at the better seed's stadium. So the 5 and 6 seeds won't get any playoff games at home unless they win that first series. You gotta be a top 4 seed to guarantee home playoff games (which is the way it was under the old format too).

Worst call of the year has had the bar set high and it's only May.

3rd base ump called this double a foul ball and it was directly in front of him and hit the line and even caught a piece of the bag. Can't be reviewed because only "outfield balls" can be reviewed for fair or foul. Infield is defined as in front of where the ump has placed himself. The thought obviously being if the play is in front of the ump he can see and make the right call. Maybe he was too close to the play and it was too much directly in front of him. LOL

Just heard on a broadcast that AL catchers are collectively hitting .214.

Woof.
I tried to think who I thought might be leading and I'm thinking either Perez or grandal but man it is tough to even think of starters

Grandal is hitting .178 and Perez is hitting .206. ;)
Jesus than I am really off base. I was just going off typically decent hitting AL catchers I could think of. Only have time to follow NL central during the regular season.

In one week the Yanks went from best record in the majors to injury ridden and desperate as they open an important four game series with last years champs, the Rays. Had to sign Matt Carpenter who was just released from his minor league contract by the Rangers. He hit .169 last year. In the lineup at DH after Aaron Hicks got scratched from the lineup 45 minutes before the first pitch. Hicks as sucked at the plate, on the bases and surprisingly even sucked in centerfield with the glove and throws. Guessing by mid-year the Yanks will have to replace him if they want to compete with the Rays/Jays. Too many other injuries to carry Joey Gallo and Hicks all year.

Yanks are in huge violation of Boxster's Baseball Rule #3, Stay Healthy. Again.
Brewers in a similar boat. 2nd best in NL, but now down Renfroe, Adames, Hader, and Peralta. Also opening a 4 game series with Saint Louis who is in 2nd, 3.5 back. Would be nice to extended our lead a few games.

#1. Management needs to assemble a good and competitive team.
#2. Competitive team needs to not underperform the talent level.
#3. Stay healthy!
#4. There is no rule #4.
