MLB: ***2022 MLB SEASON THREAD***

Holy ****. Now, THAT'S how you win a game! Giants hit three home runs off Milwaukee's Hader in the bottom of the 9th to come from being down 5-2 and win 8-5 on a grand slam from Mike Yastrzemski. First walk-off grand slam for SF since 1973.

Wow. Not sure who will be able to afford him since the bigger money teams already have boatloads of big contracts but also not sure who has the contract space beginning 2025.

Nationals might be best to not trade him. They can still get two more years from him and anyone trading for him is trading for a two year player since he is seemingly set on going free agent. IMHO I don't see this resulting in the huge bonanza trade for the Braves that some of the baseball talking heads are saying. Guessing Yanks (or anyone) would love to have a lefty like that for the next two years but what would that price be for a two year "rental"? Doesn't help that he is a bad outfielder.

I suspect he is just tired of losing and wants to go somewhere else. He isn't going to get a better contract offer regardless of where he goes.

1. It’s the Nats, not the Braves.

2. 2 years is an awfully long time for a “rental.” I know it would never happen, but I would love if the Cards went after him. Need pitching more though.

The Matt Carpenter comeback story is crazy. Since he got cut lose from a minor league contract and signed with the Yanks he has 13 HR 30 RBI and is hitting .365 in his first 30 games. He's been so hot the Yanks have been forced to find a spot for him and tonight it's in right field for this career infielder.

Two HR tonight and 6 RBI. Think they just said he had four 6 RBI games in his career and two are with the Yanks this year.

Edit: 7 RBI tonight.

Apparently stepping of the rubber is balk now.
We were watching last night since it was on Fox (and my Giants broadcast was blacked out - THANKS, MLB, for still thinking central Iowa is somehow local to Milwaukee). Personally, I don't get why it was called. Didn't look like anything to me, but I feel like it gave SF an unearned upper hand.

I give props to announcers calling out the ump after praising him the whole game. I've watched it 100 times and don't see anything. The crew chief Dreckman said after the game it was a clear cut, textbook balk, but I think he was just standing up for his crew member.

Anyway our offense needs to score more than 1 run.

Mid-season note to fans of other teams on their ex-players playing in NY. Not trolling, just an opinion on me loving or not loving them.

Matt Carpenter, Cards - Already posted in the Cardinals thread that I LOVE this guy. How can a Yankee fan not love him, He's been an unexpected super-find after looking to be washed up and done with everyone passing on him.

Anthony Rizzo, Cubs - Duh, love him. Batting average is low but plays great 1st base and been huge in the clutch with 22 HR and 57 RBI. I don't follow the NL but get now why my Cub fan farmer buddy in Iowa loves him.

Joey Gallo, Rangers - Woof. Feel bad for him. He's just sucked at the plate since coming to NY. Outstanding outfield play but you can't carry a designated fielder. Will be pretty surprised if he is on Yank roster come August. Great haircut.

Jose Trevino, Rangers - Love him. Been terrific with the staff and hitting better than expected. Fit = 100%. By all accounts an awesome guy in the clubhouse.

Josh Donaldson, Twins - Guy's an *******, which I knew already. Been playing a really good 3rd base. Hitting just well enough. Still an ******* but can't complain too much about his on field play.
Can’t thank you enough for the JD trade. That literally was such a gift.

More Matt love. No one can keep this pace up but it's crazy fun from a guy without a MLB contract seven weeks ago who was brought in for what was seen as a temp replacement for injured dudes. Stat is for 31 games.

Was wondering if there was any interest in this tonight. Might tune in just to see how 50-year old Albert Pujols does but other than that don't have any interest in the guys this year.
