Gonzaga is a perfect example this year of the name on the jersey getting them where they are in the rankings. They are #8 and here is who they have beaten:

Michigan State by 1
Kentucky...which isn't anything noteworthy this year
Xavier by 4
Alabama by 10

Those are good wins...a couple great ones. But their losses:

Destroyed at Texas by 19
Lost to Baylor which they are good not great so far
Destroyed by Purdue by 18

They also have razor thin wins over:

San Francisco by two where they had to come back late
Santa Clara by 5
BYU by 1

Now a loss to Loyola.

Not many teams would be ranked in the top 10 with that resume.

1000%. We have that resume and we’re hovering around 20.

So Tyger Campbell for UCLA grew up in Cedar Rapids. Looks like he went to a boarding school in Indiana for high school. Interesting.

Yeah. He’s got family in CR still. Relatives with two of my teammates (one his uncle) and my coach in CR back in the day.

His family I know are great people and justifiably proud of him for what he’s been part of at UCLA these past couple of seasons.

My list of teams that I really don’t want to face at this point is fairly short. Not saying there aren’t a ton of teams that could beat us any night because anything is possible in March and if we go cold from 3 we’re in trouble.

But it’s basically Purdue, Tennessee, Alabama, UConn (although they look like they’re regressing). Everyone else looks like a decent match up. I admittedly don’t know anything about Houston. They’ve got a win against UVA and St Mary’s (meh) and that’s about it on their resume. I think they’re untested.

Saw Lunardi’s most recent bracket has us in Des Moines against UC Riverside then presumably Arkansas. Off to Vegas against UCLA (maybe St Mary’s) then Houston (maybe TCU or Illinois). I’d sign up for that.

I'd much rather face Purdue than Houston. Purdue is severely overrated, playing in a super weak conference and their two biggest wins, Duke and Gonzaga, are very average teams this year that were also super overrated when they played them.

Houston is tough, they guard people in a way not many teams do. Worried about having enough ball handling against them, especially when Lipsey sits

Gonzaga needs to drop like a rock. It was such a joke they were anywhere near the top ten. I was afraid they were tracking to another 1 seed with a gifted sweet sixteen appearance before facing a real team.

Nuggets pertaining to LMU’s upset of Gonzaga … in addition to snapping 75-game home streak (or 76 if you count Spokane Arena).

  • Ended Gonzaga’s 83-game win streak vs. unranked opponents.
  • Snapped GU’s 116-game streak vs. WCC teams other than BYU and Saint Mary’s.
  • LMU’s hadn't won at Gonzaga since February 1991.

why in the hell is St Mary's NET ranking so high. they jumped ISU on wednesay and now jumped another spot last night after UConn lost.

They have 2 Quad 3 losses? i get that they probably have blown out some or most of the teams in their quad 2 and 3 wins, but WTF? i dont get it. and i know NET isnt the only metric that seeding is based on, but its a big factor.

@brentblum @ChrisMWilliams you have any insight here on this ranking?
