I should have posted this before last weekend as I saw some local media promoting this in the Des Moines area. They are still around central Iowa this weekend too I know as I saw an advertisement they are in Grimes. DO NOT fall for this scam folks! If the deal seems too good to be true it probably is. This is a good report on what you are getting and there are several others out there if you search YouTube for this. Think about it folks, I would guess these are 8oz ribeyes (if that even) so do the math on that you are paying $4/lb for it. You can't even get decent 80/20 ground beef for that at the store right now.

If you really want to save some money on beef find a local farmer that sells locker beef. Not only is the quality going to be better than what you get in the store but the price per pound you are going to come out ahead on too if you have freezer space to store a quarter of beef which comes out to around 200lbs on average.

So you’re telling me that, for the price of two thick-cut ribeyes at Fareway, I could get 20? From a reefer trailer in a hardware store parking lot? What could go wrong?
Friend of mine saw them in the Clive Menards parking lot last weekend and said there was a line at least 20 people long lined up to buy. The sad thing is the local media here promoting this. Heather from KXNO was posting about it, I'm sure they paid some advertising dollars. I hope she bought some and tried to grill up a couple for dinner last weekend so she could expirience the disappointment anyone else who bought some probably felt.

How in the world are people falling for this?

Also, maybe look at the reasons why beef is so expensive right now and think about that next time...

I fell for this about 5 years ago. The ribeyes were slightly larger than a silver dollar. They had other steaks, hamburger, seafood that they tried to push on me. I suppose cost/LB was comparable, but the quality was not good at all.

I found out after the fact I tried these one time. It was so bad we didn't even give the scraps to the dog.

You get what you pay for. Anyone that thinks they are getting a good ribeye at $4lb is sadly mistaken.
Exactly 20 for $40 they’re $2 a piece. Weigh about 2.5 oz, I bought them for convenience. Guessing somewhere between.25” and .375” thick so they basically thaw enough to cook by running under warm water.

The main reason beef prices are as high as they are right now is the US beef population has declined over the years and is at a 75 year low. This video kind of explains the current situation.

The problem is you can't just build up a herd inventory overnight, it takes several years. And the most economical way to do that right now is retain more replacement heifers in existing herds, but with beef prices where they are at right now some producers are probably making more profit off sending some of those females to the feedlot for slaughter than they are having to pay input/operational costs on them for another 2 years before they see income from their 1st calf. It's rather expensive right now to go out and start a herd too if you are going to go buy heifers or bred cows and a bull. The saying is you should pay about what you could sell 3 steers for to buy a good bull. Well with beef prices these days that could be a $10,000 bull right now. Bred heifers are probably going for $3500-5000 a head right now, bred cows depending on age probably $2500-4500. That is a lot of initial investment for someone if they were starting an operation from scratch, especially considering all the equipment and inputs you'd need to invest in as well. Even for existing cattlemen you may not turn a profit on a bred female you purchased until you sell their 2nd calf.
