12 Day Layoff

Prohm lets the guys go home for a few days and spend time with their families. Sure, it would have been nice to have a change to get Wigginton and Young on the floor one more time before conference play but honestly, the reps/conditioning they are getting in practice might be equally valuable.

I support Coach as I'm sure holiday time with families is excellent break and motivation - for both players and staff. Could be risky with a conf game the day after New Year's.

Then again, UCLA lost to Liberty on Sat and Iowa was tied late vs Nobody so risk goes both ways.
But the Christmas holiday does provide time in the schedule for these UNI-Drake games; Fran can't use the B1G schedule demand as an excuse.
If it helps the team sync to have a holiday game, I would support, but obviously Coach thinks otherwise.

Especially to integrate them in to how the defensive philosophies have changed with the way that the lineups have panned out. Gametime is no place to work on defensive principles it needs repititions.

At this point to figure out things like line ups you need something like conference competition to really see what works best in various situations.

Maybe more game time works for conditioning for those that have been out but playing with line ups vs. a team when you're up 30 doesn't really provide the best measurement.

OSU may be a great game to find out more about those things.

9 days in between games last year, 10 the year before that. Only us and Oklahoma didn't play the weekend before conference this season. I think it's poor scheduling as well. Luckily we play the worst team in the conference to start off.

But then the best one at home in only the next game.

I would actually rather have the Kansas game on the 5th be in Lawrence. We'd probably lose in Lawrence anyway, so may as well get the loss out of the way early and let it be a learning opportunity. As it is, we might have a home loss due to inexperience, a loss we'll want back later in the season.

I think it has been understated how much our depth has to help us in practice. The first team is going against a borderline top 25 team every day regardless of who is on the floor. Hell, last year we had to practically have managers practicing to field 10 players on the court. Don't think a long layoff will be as impactful as it would/could have been last year.

Solid point. This was a huge factor in why our Hoiberg teams developed so well IMO. Every team had dudes they had to go up against every day in practice that could hold their own, and would hold the other accountable.

It seems like this team has that same make up, and they enjoy playing with each other which helps them gel, as well.

REALLY?!

RealTime RPI already has us at 1-0 in conference and 11-2 overall. Glitch in the matrix . . . ??

We’re a 5 point favorite on the road tomorrow, that’s a good sign.

Can't decide if I prefer a 10+ point win to show some real potential or a close one that ISU has to grind out in the end for a mental test before KU Saturday.

Either a win is a win is a win no matter how it happens from here on out.

I like our chances, but it's no gimme game. Oky State has had some poor games for sure, but they also beat #19 LSU on a neutral court. They know this game counts.

It's one of those games we should win, but teams don't always win the games they should win. I'd feel better if we hadn't gone 12 days without playing.

This year I think the 12 day layoff was well timed. Players got a break and then the coaches had some real time to get the new pieces into the game plan and build chemistry. If we played a game, it would likely be a crap game and not provide a benefit.

It'll be the 3rd best opponent Iowa St has played this season. Losing to the top 2, if they win, it'll be the best win to date.

Honestly, I've got it as a 50/50 right now.
