According to this news article the Big Ten is floating the idea of a 24 or 28 team CFP. That's just insanity. So, an extra 5 playoff games potentially on top of a 12 game season. Note that the proposal would eliminate conference championships. Still, a 17 game season is NFL level of punishment on these young bodies. I guess if they're already getting paid, might as well make them slog through an extra long season, too? As a fan, it would be fun for a program like ISU and notice the "carrot" the Big Ten is reportedly offering the ACC and Big XII by guaranteeing 5 autobids for the Big 12 and ACC, and 7 for the SEC and Big Ten. Still, it dilutes the meaningfulness of getting in the playoff if they're basically letting in the Top 25. But, it's enticing if you're the Big XII commissioner as it leads you to believe you're ensuring your seat at the big boys table and your teams among the Power 4 for years to come and largely shuts out the Group of 5 (who are relegated to 2 autobids). Anyway, I feel like this would be the Big Ten's move to maintain superiority, but also try and entice the ACC and Big Ten. Interesting read:

Not a fan of any sport increasing games/playoff series best of “X” It’s getting absurd. Just a matter of time for mlb to make all wildcard series best of 7

What does the Big 12 have to gain if the CFP committee still seeds the field?

If everyone has more money then no one has more money. I think. Whats the point in exponentially increasing revenue when it'll just get gobbled up because there's no salary cap (there is but there isn't)

They can invite whoever they want but more than one autobid for anyone is disguating.

Any format of 24 or more teams that STILL doesn't allow an auto-bid from every league (y'know, all the conferences that are MEMBERS OF THE DIVISION) is a sham.

Also, any tournament of ANY size with more than out "automatic" bid per league is bogus.

If it's 24 teams and SEC and Big Ten each get 6 at-large all the time Just 'cuz, whatever, I guess.

It’s not enticing for the B12 if one conference gets more auto bids than them regardless of number of teams in the playoff.

This proposal is obviously so dumb that Fox and its puppet boy Pettiti should be embarrassed that this was made public.

Just say you didn’t read the link man. It’s not goin to happen but at least read the material before spouting off.
Lol

Spouting off about something you admit probably won’t happen. I read the article before he posted.

The Power 2 rule the roost. They would slit Yormark’s throat in a back alley and disolve the Big 12 if they could.

I was half kidding and half not kidding.
I also said probably.

So please relax

Go Cyclones

The proposal is guaranteed 5 auto bids for Big 12 and 7 for SEC if 28 teams. That’s a pretty good ratio for the Big 12 don’t you think? It staves off the ability to ‘slit Yormark’s throat’ don’t you think and better legitimizes the Big 12. 5:7 ratio vs our, what, 1:4 ratio, or 1:3, or pray we get 2 in some year and we’re looking at a 2:4 ratio at best. In the current iteration our status as a clearly inferior conference seems crystal clear. Change the ratios that much and it gives the Big 12 more chances and a team like ISU more opportunity and muddies the waters as to conference superiority.

I don’t like such a huge playoff either, but this has to be more enticing to Yormark or the ACC commissioner.

I don’t know what’s worse: the absurdity of this proposed playoff or any other playoff with multiple auto bids or the absurdity of those thinking it is ok for the B12 to accept a fewer number of auto bids.

But if those 5 teams are seeded low, is it really a good ratio? I’d assume with that many rounds, it’ll be like the NCAA tournament payouts with 27 games X 2 teams = 54 shares. If the playoffs are seeded such that the Big12 and ACC have to continually play road games at SEC stadiums, that’ll quickly end up with the Big12 getting 5 of the 54 shares. Guarantee this is how the Big10 is looking at this working.
