A-Rod wants new Wolves/Lynx arena asap

Wouldn't mind rebuilding on current site. It's a great location with easy access to light rail. Play at the barn for a couple years during construction

I imagine they will be looking for a site that has the available real estate to allow an entertainment district and other development around it since that seems to be the trend for most new arenas.

They are which is why the farmers market area between 94 and Target Field has always been a point of discussion for any sports arena talk. The congestion there is already insane so can’t imagine what it would be like with an arena there.

Current site was pretty tight by 1990 standards. It is really tight by today's standards. Kind of like how when they tore down the Metrodome and rebuilt, they turned the field 90 degrees so the old MD length essentially became the width of the new stadium. More concourse width, more amenities, more clubs, etc. are all demanded in new arenas/stadia.

Hockey season and BB season overlap. So you have to have a BB ownership group who is comfortable playing on top of ice. Most aren't even though it can be done pretty effectively. Besides, they will want THEIR OWN building for **** measuring reasons. You also have to have a NHL ownership group that is comfortable with their calendar getting clogged up by the NBA team and playoffs. The NBA is pretty demanding and will push really hard for their scheduling to get precedence.

uhh... that's 10000000X worse than Target Center. Part of the reason U of M Basketball has been hot garbage.

Yeah I knew they'd have to lay panels on ice but it could be an option if they tried.

Yes, it is pretty old. The 2017 renovation helped with the premium experience with two additional clubs and some of the old suites being repurposed to new theater box products. Most of the remaining suites were upgraded as well. In addition this past season opened with still another new club where the restaurant used to be. A lot of changes to improve the premium experience, but it is still a 35 year old building on a small footprint in a league where 12 years is old.

I added more to that post after you quoted it.

One other thing to add is that Xcel is a hockey arena. Hockey arenas generally have good sight lines for hockey but then have a lot of flat area with terrible sight lines around and at the end of the court for basketball. Think about watching BB at Wells Fargo or whatever they call the DSM arena now.

I will admit, it has been nearly 15 year since I've been in the TC, so I'm probably wrong. And even now... it's outdated. Yes the renovations were nice, but it put lipstick on a pig essentially.

Went to a concert there last summer. The acoustics were horrible and it was about 84 degrees inside. Time for an upgrade.
