Just happened across the ISU v Bama 2001 Indy Bowl playing on ESPNU right now at Christmas midnight.

I was at that game. Funny to think of Bama in a lower bowl. Fun time and Bama fans were so gracious partying that day.

Damn, Ennis was a beast. I just watched Seneca fumble a snap after we drove the field in the early fourth. Yelk woofs the FG, his second miss. But we are up 13-7.

Wow, so sweet to watch Seneca, Ennis, Lane Danielson, Mike Banks, etc.

I guess I will torture myself and finish this.

But last kick will be good.

Absolutely brutal clock management in the last 2:00.

Yep, still watching. Was too inebriated to remember some of this at the time, but it is absolutely cringing.

Love Danny Mac, but we gain 8 on first down, and he declined a penalty that would have made it 1 and 5, and wants 2 and 2. Of course we get stuffed to make it 3rd down.

Then we pick up first, we have 2 timeouts, but idiot decides to spike the ball with a minute.

And then the clusterfuck of getting a DELAY OF GAME penalty after spiking the ball. Wtf.

Just an ISU way to lose.

I was there on the ISU side in my Cyclone gear.
Alabama played GREAT FG defense that night.
/ sarcasm

If they would have called that FG good like they should have we would have been on the trajectory of Alabama the past 20 years.

Look at the stats ISU totally dominated Alabama, one of many nut kicks.

I don't go back to the fg or clock stuff. The way our defense was playing I always go back to if we just get punt off safely I feel we had it.

Also prior to the punt block, around 10-minute mark, had a good drive going, seems like 2nd & short inside the 30 (?) after a good Haywood run, then fumbled snap, incomplete pass, then missed FG ... that sounds like I'm blaming Yelk for that one, too, but (1) might have gotten first down or (2) at least gotten closer attempt and milked more time, at minimum.

should have never came dow to fg, we dominated them. on 3rd and 4 Seneca had nothing but green in front of him, should have ran for it as he would have easily picked up the first down. it was the sure thing. but he was to confident in his passing ability and threw into coverage.

With 2 missed FG already, the blocked punt wouldn't have mattered nearly as much if it were 16-7 or 19-7 at that point.

We made that trip to Shreveport. I should watch the game on video because I remember very little of it. Way too many $0.25 beers at Johnny Orr's Tailgate.

There were several drives that stalled out iirc.

It was just a very ISU football game.

I can't find the box score for the game (I know it's out there somewhere, but it isn't THAT important to seek further) .... seem to recall ISU had a HUGE advantage in total yards.

I watched replay, at one point it was like 4-to-1 on passing yards alone, I think rushing was lopsided, too, at least into the 4Q.

Replay also flashed "Iowa State is 12-0 when Haywood rushes for 100+ yards." He was like 106 yds with 6.0 per carry. In retrospect, that seems like a hex.
