We’ve had flashes of brilliance in our time, but no one would accuse Iowa State of being a football powerhouse over the past 100+ years.

What if you had a time machine and could go back and make small ripples in time?

What would you do (realistically) if you could go back at any time and change our history? Were there coaches we passed over? Did our admin make certain decisions we could reverse?

And Jim criner, we had two shots at him.

Also, I swear I have posted in this thread already but don’t see it.

Other than keeping Bruce or hiring Cooper, I think the biggest thing would be to make sure the ISU administration was friendly towards sports during the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I think has been the biggest impact.

What could we have done to keep Johnny Majors?

Earl Bruce was great. In my alternate universe, we keep Johnny Majors, he wins a couple of Notional Titles, Tony Dorsett, etc., retires at age 79, at ISU.

Then along comes an upstart, young Earl Bruce. He completes and adds to our already state of the art athletic department facilities. For good measure he wins 3 more National Titles, and has ISU consistently in the Top 15 year after year. He retires at age 81, at ISU.

Let me have a feww minutes for the rest.

That 2011 victory over #2 ranked OSU was fun, but we never could parlay it into any kind of sustained success. Not sure it was ever destined to happen under CPR, but if it was going to, that was his chance at we blew it.

We lost out the rest of that season (6-7), went a "bleh" 6-7 the next season, too.
