Officiating at the end of the Iowa game

Seemed pretty bad.

Don't really understand picking up the PI flag vs. Hutchinson? Didn't look like we were offsides? Iowa OL holding?

Luckily we won the game anyway, but not sure what was going on there at the end.

If he makes any effort at the ball I’d agree but he didn’t so I think it was clear PI.

You can't call an unsportmanlike in that situation. Luckily it didn't matter. Picked up flags are annoying, but the coverage didn't look like it was a penalty.

I'm in the camp of the team needing to just make sure they stay on the sideline no matter what they do but is a warning required before actually pulling the flag?

Also on the defensive offsides, there was also holding on Iowa there which I think can still count post snap, and should have offset somewhere in there.

If Iowa made that field goal I would have been livid. There’s no way you can throw that flag there

My guess is that the official who threw that flag thought ISU had just won the game too and thought it’d be a meaningless penalty. Probably wouldn’t have thrown it if he knew there was a drive extending flag already thrown. But once the laundry is on the field, you can’t just pick it back up.

Think he was holding him prior to the ball getting there. Not sure how they pick that up. Sideline thing should have been a warning unless one of our guys decked someone. Everyone thought the game was over.

I like the no call on the PI/holding, just like I liked the no call on hand fighting on X's touchdown. Let them fight for it.

I would have liked a slant route there instead of the jump ball.... probably would have went for a TD.

Picking up the X flag, and the gifting Iowa 20 yards were not the calls Capt Kirk wanted to talk about in his post game presser.
He whined about the fumble at the goal line because his coaches upstairs said the ball broke the plane. So in Kirk''s mind, damn the review, his coaches said it was a TD.

PI vs no-PI is a lot different than unsportsmanlike for rushing the field. In the first, they discussed and said no penalty actually occurred. What you are asking is for them to say, “technically a penalty occurred, but the official only called it because he thought it was meaningless so we’re going to pick it up.” Big, big difference. Those unsportsmanlike penalties get called all of the time in situations like that at the end of a game. This is the first time I’ve ever seen one almost impact the game. But officials call it all of the time. And they can’t just pick a flag like that up.

Apparently I don't know what a false start is, because it looked like a LOT of Iowa linemen got early jumps (like maybe 6-8 times throughout the game)?

Iowa’s Oline is not good. They were holding on nearly every okay and they still couldn’t block us.
