Just want to correct some bad info.
The Sugar bowl is a Big 12 bowl game 2/3rds of the time.
1. The SEC and Big 12 own the Sugar bowl. (May 2012 they jointly created the Championship bowl and in November 2012 they announced New Orleans as the site and will be called the Sugar Bowl. Not sure how they obtained these naming rights but it is part of a 12 year contract.
2. Sugar bowl is part of the CFP rotation and will host a CFP game after 2020 season. Every third year the Sugar bowl will host the CFP.
3. In years when not hosting CFP, it is required by contract to take the SEC and Big 12 champions. If a conference champion is selected for the CFP then they are required to take the runner up.
The Big 12 sends whomever lost the CCG if the winner goes to the CFP. The SEC sends the next highest CFP ranked team. It is assumed they will meet New Year's 6 ranking requirements but not required.
So Sugar bowl will always take the #1, #2 or #3 Big 12 team as determined by tie breakers and CFP invites unless it is hosting a playoff game.
(I included the #3 team in case of the very unlikely event of two Big 12 teams making the playoffs. Tie breaker rules would be used to determine #3 team.)
Carry on.
