Progression of Will McDonald

Yes, wide/rush position right now is the only one that is working for him. He was getting swallowed up routinely today when lining up right on the tackle or anytime he tried to go inside. Another off season will help with that for sure.

I dont remember details of Jason Berryman's game/style but he reminds me of him in that he is slim (for a DE) and really quick off the line

I think McDonald could be a hybrid DE/OLB next year where he may be labeled a LB, but plays more like a DE in that he rushes the passer 80% of time. But by playing up they can move him around.

I look for a Lawrence Taylor/Joey Porter/Clay Matthews type role.

Right now he is listed as 6'4" 230. He really needs to hit the weight room hard this offseason and put on 15-20 pounds of muscle and get up to 250 or so. His natural bend and burst off the line is freakish. Reminds me a bit of Von Miller in college. Von Miller listed at 6'3" 250. McDonald and Bailey will be a pretty dynamic duo at defensive end next year.

Still very thin, but his potential is sky high. I think our expectations were about a year early, but certainly not out of line.

Rudy Wade really needs to push McDonald in the weight room. It’s nice to see us getting pressure without blitzing.

I think one of the reasons they tried him at LB this offseason was because he wasn’t putting on weight. I think he’s a guy you just let develop
rather than place into a position

Last week it was posted that he is up to 242.

Absolute stud and freak athlete. I agree that the play he got tackled, hopped back up and chased down the QB was a thing of beauty. Put on some weight and learn the position some more and he could be a terror for us that teams have to game plan around.
