Who wrote the marital rights laws in Iowa?

Unless you’ve done something very wrong, the person you marry is not the same person you will ultimately divorce. Everyone should protect themselves before and during a marriage so that, if your partner eventually says they’re done, you can still survive.

Sounds like you married a real winner. My buddy got divorced and once he laid out for the judge everything he'd been paying for or paid off for the wife, judge made sure she wasn't getting half.

Yep, She was remarried to a new schmuck 2 years later. Same guy that was remodling my old garage a week after I moved out. They waited until my alimony was out to get married. I actually paid in advance to get it over with.

Did he lie on his loan application? Did he answer Single instead of married?
I dont know nor care. The point is if she/he isn't on the loan than marriage shouldn't matter imo. I mean you signed the contract to own each other, you cant sign the loan to buy a damn house together? After reading through this thread youd have to be one stupid s.o.b. to get married. What can you do being legally married that you cant do being bf/gf that live together? The odds are not in yout favor. After reading through this thread its not about anything other than leveraging assets against each other. No wonder why the people I know who have been together for 20 years and even have kids together without taking the commitment of financial misery are more happy. This thread should be a ******* public service announcement. Kudos to the couples who have made it but you are truly defying the odds.

First marriages survive close to 60% of the time. So the odds are in the favor of the first married. Means this who get married more than once like to get divorced often.

Wife can't be compelled to testify against me if I choose to murder someone.

Being married isn’t hard. But it’s not for everyone. Mostly because so many people can’t communicate worth a sh*t.

That said, you sound very much single. Good luck down the road

And as I've said if it works out for you and your spouse awesome. For real. But at what point is saying everything both party's own now equal logical or right? You want to fight 50/50 for the house you better be on the loan, you want child support? You better have the kids,etc.. this **** is madness. I get it its the ****** up law. Doesn't mean its right or fair.

Married filing jointly status on a tax return which saves a TON of money in most scenarios.

Automatic shot caller if I needed a medical call made. In theory it isnt a medical POA but if a doctor needs decisions now spouse carries a hell of a lot more weight.

No "power" struggle where I'm a roommate in a house without my name on it but asked to contribute to an asset I have no actual skin in.

Social security surviving spouse benefits.

Benefits eligibility.

I could be wrong but I believe married people as a whole experience more happiness on average than those who aren't.

Its wild but some people just want a commitment more than a boyfriend or girlfriend.

But please continue on your diatribe just because you failed while most people aren't.
