Ouch. Penn State 2027 Recruiting Decline?

So if we had just hired Mouser, Campbell would’ve been perfectly fine building PSU’s roster from scratch after players followed Franklin?

Yeah…I don’t buy that. Just a bruised ego knowing he stopped being kingmaker for ISU football after he announced he was leaving.
His whole story is BS. As I’ve said on here before my son was friends with Brahmer. I know for a fact that he was one of the ones Campbell talked to about coming to PSU before he even announced he was leaving as was many others.

Brahmer was dumb enough to show that whole group of friends the group chats with the coaches during that time. Coaches and players in full on bashing ISU mode.

Got a screen shot? Sounds juicy.

Let's crank the hate watching up a notch.

They're not gonna pay $80M to fire a guy one season in, either. He's got plenty of runway yet. I don't think the fans will be as vicious as many expect, they're used to keep coaches around.
He’s not getting much runway - maybe two years. I would guess the average fan feels that the Joe Pa affair has been honored and proper reverence given and Franklin got some grace there - CMC won’t. It’s going to be a fanbase that sees this as a new slate and 10 wins seasons are the floor.

Well hopefully those fans don't look at PSU's records before Franklin because Joe Pa had plenty of marginal records among stretches of dominance before and after joining the B1G.

I'm curious to see if it turns into bit of a revolving door there if the head guy doesn't win quickly in an era where it's very possible to do so.

For sure, and Joe Pa’s tenure was such a different era. He achieved such reverence that even in down years, it was total trust and belief that he’d right the ship and his guidance was unquestioned. Ferentz is somewhat similar, while he hasn’t won natty’s he’s brought prominence to a program that isn’t in a recruiting hotbed and doesn’t have blue blood resources. I’m guessing there’s a significant portion of the fanbase that feels ‘comfortable’ with him because they can come into town, ride the train to the stadium and attend games and Kinnick is a hostile environment and a lot of wins happen. I don’t think most Iowa fans expect to win the Big10 now with the new joiners and a natty is not on the table. Probably a playoff every 4-5 years would keep them happy. It would keep most programs happy.

I don’t think PSU fans are going to be so ‘comfortable’! They want league champions and playoffs almost every year. I think it’s a different fan base.

Lol of course not, they don't exist.

I just really need to know that with everything going on in the move, that players and coaches were able to prioritize texting one another to drag ISU.

'Yeah **** this place Coach! We'll never have to eat at Hickory Park again!'

'I mean, the tailgating here isn't that good, is it?'

'Low key I hate the winters here, Pennsylvania will be a nice change!'

'It will be nice not playing Iowa every year. Their fans were mean!'

I'm still not sure that I'd like to see CMC succeed at PSU, but I knew I was really down on him leaving and taking a portion of the team. Today, after reading through this thread, I've developed a glimmer of hope for our prospects with CJR because, maybe, just maybe we hit the ceiling with CMC and it was time for a change. I'm heartened because JP moved so quickly on this guy that he didn't give CMC a chance to make a bigger mess than he already did with his leaving.

The playoffs isn't what got Franklin axed it was his inability to win games against Ohio State and Michigan. I fail to see how a guy that wins 8-10 games a year at Iowa State and could consistently play with teams like OU is guaranteed to not do at least that good at a place with more resources. Are you conceding that the Big Ten is a far superior conference? That seems to be what you are saying.
I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to. The post you responded to was a response to a post that said Franklin hadn't won a playoff game, which wasn't accurate.

You guys are all way too hung up on the inability to beat Ohio State and Michigan. Yes, they were frustrated that PSU seemed to never get over the hump against those teams. You're missing the forest for the trees.

The bottom line is it doesn't matter where the wins and losses come from. 10-2 is enough to survive for awhile. 9-3 isn't good enough. 8-4 and things start moving quickly. Penn State fans are not going to be ecstatic like ISU fans with 9-3 with a win over a top program and 3 losses to lesser or equal programs. Their goal isn't to beat Ohio State. It's to win the Big 10 and compete for a national championship. Beating Ohio State is just how they get there.

Yes, I think the top of the current Big 10 is quite a bit stronger than the top of the Big 12 that Campbell was in (and never won). Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana and Oregon are much more difficult to navigate than Riley's OU and a mediocre Texas. Obviously they don't have to play those teams every season, but simply knocking off one of them isn't going to save Campbell. He has to do better than Franklin, and for all of his failures, Franklin actually won a lot of games.

He doesn't need 5 star kids. It hasn't helped Oregon win a natty and Ohio State seems to underachieve plenty. He just needs to bring in the 4 star guys. Those are the types of guys be can make into 5 star players by their JR or SR year.
Ohio State underachieving! LOL

Sit this one out. You'll find another thread somewhere
