If they don’t win 10 with that schedule, Matt should be fired immediately. Penn State has to have the easiest schedule of all P4 schools. And what new system? He brought the entire team with him.
It's relatively weak but saying it's the easiest in P4 is just silly. They still have @ Michigan, v. USC, @ Washington, all three are ranked inside the top-20 preseason, which I know aren't always that accurate but Michigan and USC finished top-20 last season as well. And playing @ Washington is rarely easy. Plus there's always the chance of dropping one nobody sees coming like they did last year losing to Northwestern, or like ISU did losing to Colorado.
I kinda think the water mark is in the 8-9 region instead of 10+, even considering the schedule. If he wins games they should win and loses games they should lose (or are close to 50/50s), minimal issue will be made of it for year one. He really just has to avoid bad losses.
That's what I'm saying. Putting a 10-win threshold on him in year 1 seems pretty unreasonable to me, even at Penn St. Cut the guy a break. I agree that 8-9 is a better expectation.

Some of those guys are really, really good. I'm talking about Brahmer and Neal. Eskildsen and Sowell are just average P4 WRs. Rocco is a gamer, but can be inaccurate and is prone to throwing picks. Hansen gets hurt too much. The LBs Ebel, Brezina, Bacon are all good players, but we're talking late draft picks or UFA at best. Ezeogu started the whole season at DE last year and didn't record a sack. Out of all the players that went from ISU to PSU, Brahmer and Neal are the only ones that I'd say were Day 1 or Day 2 picks. Maybe some of the younger guys have a chance eventually, but no one has seen them play yet. If those ISU players are good enough to go 10-2 with a B10 schedule despite Campbell's usual coaching mistakes, the B10 isn't nearly as good as they are made out to be.
This reads to me like the REAL Matt Campbell exposed himself when Mouser did not get the call. Matt is just straight up garbage to me, I hope he ends up with the James Franklin treatment from Pedo St. I believe Iowa State has a coach that wants to be here and is not making excuses before even coaching a game.
So if we had just hired Mouser, Campbell would’ve been perfectly fine building PSU’s roster from scratch after players followed Franklin?
Yeah…I don’t buy that. Just a bruised ego knowing he stopped being kingmaker for ISU football after he announced he was leaving.
PSU is gonna be playing 7/9 league games against the bottom half of the big ten with 3 G5 games.
If ISU this year (assuming CMC and everyone stayed) had a schedule of Marshall, Buffalo, temple, Purdue, Rutgers, Maryland, northwestern, Minn, Wisconsin, how many wins would that be? I would say that’s 9 right there. Maybe you think CMC drops and easy game that gets you only to 8. Pull one upset, either with USC traveling across the country or Washington being worse then people think that gets you back to 9.
Add in a bowl game and you’re at 10 wins. They don’t have a big ten schedule, they have a bottom of the league schedule, if a team only plays the bottom half of any league that record would be expected to be good with a quality coach and a lot of returning players
Ehhh…I wouldn’t go that far. I still wish he would have stayed and think our football program would be in better shape if he had.
But I do think that it’s stupid when people act like we should be happy for him. I hope he fails at Penn State. And I hope he regrets leaving.
And as I said before, this does make me think Jamie was right in announcing Rodgers so fast. Matt wanted to run the show and you only get to do that if you’re actually at Iowa State.
If this response from Campbell is true, it really tells you how little he and JP communicated. With no HC experience, Campbell must have thought Mouse was the next Fred, not the next Paul.

I think it’s just Matt trying to make an excuse as to why he took all our two deeps with him. Does anyone with even half a brain think he wouldn’t have taken those guys with him if Mouser was our next coach? C’mon people!
Michigan is also going through a coaching change, who knows if USC is going to be able to get right or not, and while I think Washington is going to be very good, lets see it first.
Yeah I get all that but they're still all very loseable games against at least 2 and possibly 3 ranked teams, with 2 of them on the road. Add in a few possible unexpected upsets, and I'd say an 8-win season for PSU with a new HC and completely rebuilt roster would be a successful season.
Hard to view Michigans coaching change as anything other than an upgrade. Moore was very obviously not focused on the team and player development and it showed
True but it's still a change in the staff and how they do things. If you are going to ding Campbell for being new, then you have to do the same for Michigan. We have no clue how either will work out in the long run, both could be home run hires or go the other way.
