Do the math on oil changes, ships lose money on those. They try to make it up with selling things you may or may not need. Some shops are on commission, you don’t really want to go to one of them.

A dealership saying they don’t make money on sales…….seems farmers say the same thing but yet still keep doing it. If they didn’t make money on sales, why not close that up and just be a service center?

Because customers that buy your vehicles are the primary ones who use your services. Especially when they lease.

So you believe it when the car salesman says we’re not making any money on this deal?

So if it’s true, that basically dealerships make their money off Service. Then that means in a couple years all these EV companies are gonna go out of business with that logic.

Most EV companies don’t have massive taj majal buildings to maintain.

I work for John Deere, not a car dealership, but 100% our dealerships try to break even on sales and then make money on service.

John Deere to cars is apples and ribeyes. Not even close. I’ve never been in a Tesla dealership or other EV dealerships but I find it hard to believe that they are selling in old machine sheds and have heat at 50 during the winter.

Well you obviously haven’t been in a John Deere dealership either.

Tesla doesn’t have dealerships. That’s the point.

Tesla doesn't have dealerships. They have small service centers but not many. Only EV dealership I've seen was a BYD one in Ireland. You buy Teslas online and pick them up at the closest delivery/service center or they deliver to your house. In some cities it will drive itself to your house.

I wonder how much business the service centers would see. What would routine maintenance look like for a Tesla or EV in general? Rotate and check tread depth on tires? Check the brake pads?

Body work stuff from collisions is a big one, all the items you mentioned they'll send someone to your house to do.

Ford pays for my services on my Lightning. Every 10k miles i get new wipers, tires rotated, brakes checked, and washer fluid topped off

I converted my golf cart to lithium 3 years ago $2,400.000. Same thing now less than $1,000.00. DIY. I tell the guys at the course "its windmill powered". Just throwing spitballs see what sticks, when I say that.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread. BEV manufacturers are going to make their money through subscription services. Just like other software companies. Charge a regular fee for expanded functionality.

And the top guys in your shop could make a good living by going out on their own. A lot of farmers have a nice place to work in. Ya you got to keep a computer updated , but they can make it work.
