Southwest Airlines coming to DM

Yeah I was hoping they were announcing a few more cities Des Moines was connecting with. Color me not impressed with only 2 trips per day to Midway.

Taking small steps like this is one of the reasons why Southwest has been successful when other airlines have not.

Unfortunately, SW fuel contracts have run out and the Omaha prices have gone up quite a bit recently. They may not have as many financial bennies in DSM as one would expect from the past as they do have older airplanes that are fuel hogs.

This...plus...they don't do any market they go into half-*** so expect more...much more in the future.

I think there are FAA regulations that control the flights and routes. The Midway flights may just be picking up flights that were available, perhaps because of the purchase of another airline. I would expect their flight selection to become much more robust in the future.

Slightly off topic, but my family flew out of DSM to Orange Beach earlier this year. If you're looking for a budget friendly beach trip for the family would 10/10 recommend.
