***Jack Trice Stadium/Hilton Coliseum alcohol sales thread***

I leave about one-third of the time because there is something at our tailgate that I need to address, such as something happening with the TV for those who didn't have tickets. Granted, this happens less now that we have gone to Starlink and YoutubeTV. But other things happen too. For instance, sometimes I need to take care of something because the weather turned bad. I almost never drink when I'm out at our tailgate during halftime and won't be buying beer in the stadium anyway, so it isn't about that for me.

And for those who really care about getting fans in their seats for the start of the second half, make sure that you complain as loudly about the terrible service at the concession stands. I think that is as big a problem as people going to their tailgates at halftime.

I think we can complain about that if it is an issue certainly, but it’s hard to make the argument when you also allow people out. Now that they took one variable away, I feel like this can be the next issue.

As far as going out to the tailgate to fix something, that is unfortunate, but most of the P4 teams do it this way now, so it will just be a learning curve for you. I’m sure you will get a system down for the issues you described.

The vast vast majority of open seats are people stuck in concessions and restrooms lines because those are both a disaster at jack trice. If anything, beer sales will probably make that worse

I rarely utilize reentry now, but back when I did it was less about going out to the parking lot to slam a beer and more that it was faster to go out there, hit a restroom, and maybe grab a hot dog off the grill than it was to do those things inside the stadium

LOL no it's not. I've been a season ticket holder for over 20 years and it's not an accident that the largest areas of open seats to start the second half are between the 30's.

100%. Tired of the half full stadium at the start of the 2nd half.

Just watch though, the loudest proponents for alcohol sales will also be the loudest about losing the re-entry. Just entertaining, ha!
Oh this is for sure coming. Wonder how many Power 4 schools allow exit/re-entry during halftime? Guessing very few or maybe even none.

I mean, theres no reason those who took advantage of that shouldn't be.

Theres no actual connection between alcohol sales and needing to ban people from reentry. Just an excuse to slip in the change.

I do look forward to continuing to see the stadium have open seats after halftime and people finally realize it wasn't the people leaving the stadium at halftime causing it
Oh people are going to MAD about that first bullet point
Love the first bullet point. Long overdue.

I’d love anyone who disagrees with me on that to try to make a coherent counterpoint as to why people can come and go as they please, especially now the main reason they left is available in the stadium,.

I'm not MAD and am glad we are doing something to create an additional revenue stream for the Athletic Department. I'll also share the POV from someone who doesn't drink but loves to tailgate and attend games.

For years I've enjoyed going out to our tailgate at halftime, celebrating(or complaining) about the first half, and watching highlights of other games. When I leave my seat at halftime, I set a timer on my phone for 15 minutes which gives me plenty of time to walk out and walk back in so I can be in my seat for the 2nd half kickoff.

I'm a big advocate of fans creating an environment that gives our team an advantage on the field and on the court so I think everyone should be there from start to finish but I also don't believe that the re-entry policy will change the stadium being half empty since the majority of sales will be in the new areas on the north and south sides of the stadium and many will be there socializing just as the crowd has done at the SEZ bar for years..

Maybe a bit much with defending it, but what's he going to do, speak publicly saying "I want to sell beer but my boss won't let me."?
Just say “it’s not an option at this time”.

I think he actually said that booze sales would happen over his dead body, and of course the whole “slobs bit”.

It’s not that hard to justify this stance without insulting your patrons

I think he tends to overly lean into being the company man at times. Similar situation when he was defending the committee's decision when we were underseeded a couple years ago. Sometimes it's better just to shut up

I get what you're saying, but unless you park in 85E, A-D5, G10, or any of the S lots, it really isn't that easy to slip out at halftime to do all of that in 15 minutes. I haven't left at halftime in years until this past year when I slipped out to go grab a poncho during the ASU game. Left right at halftime from section F to B4, grabbed it quick and made it back to my seat as they were lining up to start the second half.

When my kids were younger, I’d often leave to give them to another adult who would pick them up and I would go back in after half. Real helpful for late night games when they couldn’t hang until 10 PM in the colder weather. Alcohol was definitely the main reason people left and came back. But it wasn’t the only one.

Would be curious how much of Pollard's flip is due to changing economics. Or is this something President Cook has challenged JP implement- no stone unturned to raise revenues.
