***Official St. Louis Cardinals Thread***

Liberatore can’t even get through 2 against the crappy Royals. 6 of the 7 hits he gave up were extra base hits. Really can’t wait until his time is up in the rotation

Without a doubt he had a crappy outing, it's going to happen to the best of them. Take the loss and move on.

Yes, but he has not done well of late.
Yeah it’s not just one game with Libby, it’s been a long run of games of inability to get past the fifth inning and ineffectiveness. ERA is in the 5s now

No one is saying Libby is the ace of the staff, but he is better than many others were could be throwing out there to pitch. It's not like the Cards have an abundance of starting pitching ready to take his place down in the minors.

At this point I would hope Dobbins is back up as soon as he is able to be and replaces either Leahy or Liberatore in the rotation. Can't remember the exact rules but he has to stay down a certain number of days after his last demotion. While the Cardinals are currently competing, they can't have both of those guys in the rotation right now, and especially not back to back.

Mathews and Mautz just can't figure out the walks, I'd be nervous to have them up until after the deadline at this point. Similarly Doyle and Cijntje are not doing well at AA. For all the success we've had with the hitters this year, the pitchers have been almost equally disappointing. But I feel pretty strongly that Liberatore and Doyle could make for good back of the bullpen guys if starting does not work out (Leahy would have a nice role in the BP as well). But hopefully there will be an uptick in the results in the minors as we turn towards the back half of the season and we can get the arrow pointed up for some of these guys in the second half of the year.

Dang heck of a game today, score 12 runs and have to hold on for the victory, overall very disappointing weekend only wining one out of three to the Royals.

Bigger picture this weekend showed why you have to be a smart seller at the deadline, move players like May and a few others to get a maximum return and continue the rebuild. Ask yourself one basic question about every position and player on the field "is this guy going to be manning that spot in 2027/28 and beyond." Any answer other than "without a doubt" you are looking to move them if you can get a piece back that could answer that question.
