Caroline McCombs Named Iowa State Associate Head Coach

Stop back when he announces it.
Okay provide some clarity. Are you saying when Billy announces he is leaving the program it will also be announced that Caroline is the head coach in waiting or are you saying other fans/posters that aren't you and I are going to all start to assume Caroline is the head coach in waiting after a Billy announcement comes out?

What? I said Billy is leaving the program and Caroline is the coach in waiting.
Two things here.

One is that McCombs wasn't immediately announced as HC in waiting. Makes sense to name her ASAP to help the recruiting and transition process.

Two, hiring McCombs as HC in waiting would be a foolish move on JP's end given her resume. He can do much better than her at a reasonable salary next March.

People assuming she is the "head coach in waiting" is a pretty big leap. Usually in those situations it is announced long before they become head coach, like Alan Huss at Creighton. Alan Huss Sure, I'd bet in her mind she sees an opportunity if they can be successful the next year or two and Bill retires. But its likely much more that, an opportunity she sees, than her being brought in from the AD level to be the next head coach.
IMO some posters on this thread are looking for something to complain about. Whether it be Bill Fennelly, Jaime Pollard, WBB in general or former players.

As you state, it's pretty clear Coach McCombs isn't the "coach in waiting". If she was, it would have been announced at her hiring.

McCombs sounds like a great hire. She has head coaching experience at 2 schools and has been a Big 10 & SEC assistant.

Idk, we don't know the circumstances of why she is leaving Auburn. Seems like weird timing to leave given she came there last year during the first year of a new hc. Doesn't seem like you usually see a ton of coaching turnover after just one year somewhere. Could have not worked out well there and just be taking an available gig even if it has a short lifespan.
She was not firmly entrenched. I’ll see my way out
