Jack Kohnen committed to Iowa State!!!

He's taller. Naz was much more athletic and stronger, even as a freshman. There's no way Kohnen is getting to the hoop with the athleticism he has in that video. He looks slower than Momcilovic and if anything, I'd say less athletic than Thomas.

Kohnen to me looks like Milan with more advanced ballhandling and passing. Certainly not a bad thing, I was just a little surprised with those highlights.
You need to watch a more recent video. I came away thinking he is significantly more athletic than Milan and has much more balance to his offense skill set. I could see him being an outside/inside matchup problem for teams at 6’6”. Hard to judge defense, but I thinking he will be way better than both Milan and Matt because they weren’t very good.

I'm so old I remember when folks said Jeff Hornacek wasn't athletic enough to make it at the college level. That was before he went on to become an NBA all-star.
Jake Sullivan, Niang, Momcilovic, Matt Thomas. None were athletic enough for the Big 12 level.

Sheesh, relax guys. I didn't say I didn't like him. I'm not tearing him down. Just a critique in relation to his ranking. I love nothing more than elite shooters. I had just incorrectly assumed because of his high ranking that he had a higher ceiling athletically.

The competition in the high school videos were not good, and it looked like he was trying to bully ball more than slash. I like his ball handling and court vision to go with the elite shooting. It does look like he's gained some confidence with the ball in his hands in more recent videos. In this one it looks like he has a nice Niang/Jokicish pump fake from 3 to get an angle, and seal the defender, and he has the strength to ward off the defender. That's something that Milan/Thomas couldn't do.

I'm not saying he's not going to succeed here. I think he will because elite 3 point shooting is still the most important skill in the sport.

He was being guarded by post players and had elite footwork
I know, because you don't have to be an explosive athlete to get to the basket. It certainly helps, but there is more than one way to do it as long as you have the handles, body control and strength. Being 6'-6" helps.

Having said that, Kohnen is likely a 3pt shooter that occasionally gets to the basket. We don't need him to be Keyshon Gilbert out there.

I'd have been worse than him in the same situation. Royce is the only athlete in my time who I consider a douche.
My lone encounter with Hornecek at Beyer was definitely less than friendly. They shut a court down for him and his ball clanked off the court in my direction. While I was retrieving it he demanded I return it to him. I just looked at him and walked away. Apparently it worked he stomped off and the rest of us got another court.

I was in school when one of his teams came back for their 20th anniversary at a game at Hilton. Before the game you could get in line to get autographs from the team. The line stretched all the way around Hilton and was moving incredibly slow. I was waiting in line for a while but it was becoming clear there was no way I was getting an autograph before the game started. Then I noticed Hornacek signing autographs not too far in front of me. He was tired of the line moving so slow at the table where the team was sitting so he got up and was working his way back through the line so more people could get an autograph. I got his autograph and a picture with him at least. I thought that was pretty cool.

Ha, I have a similar story. I left my friends in line to scope out how long it was. I saw Jeff making his way down the line and just stuck out the ball I had to be autographed and it worked. Glad I did too because he had to leave before the game ended. After the game the rest of the team and Coach Orr were just hanging out by the court so I got the rest of the team then.

When it's all said and done, Kohnen will be the best recruit from this class.

SolarGarlic did say he’s Milan with better dribbling and passing, so that is certainly plausible. It wouldn’t contradict anything he’s said.

Let’s hope Davis and Harrington live up to their ceilings, and make your statement incorrect

He is a lot shorter though. Milan could get his shot off a lot because he was so tall. Kohnen will have the ability to get his shot off just a different way. Actually other than shooting he seems nothing like Milan. He seems more like Matt Thomas to me.

They are what, 2" different in height? Don't know if he is still growing or not, but with seemingly better hops, Kohnen has plenty of size to shoot from the perimeter. I realize we have a better confidence in Milan's actual height from the combine.

Kohnen is more athletic than Milan. The Matt Thomas comparison is probably more accurate. Matt shot almost 45% from 3 his senior year. I think Kohnen is right around that right now from 3 on the EYBL circuit, which is tops in the whole circuit.
