Without JJ and Tamin will milan be as productive at KY

When you play musical chairs with these teams every year a couple huge spenders will inevitably be huge flops.

They’re definitely a candidate.

Kentucky's offense is different than Iowa State's in the sense that they'll have 5 offensive guys outside of the paint much of the time (similar to BYU under Pope). Athletic guards that can dribble drive and get to the hoop opens up help side as defenders begin to sag, I think that's where Milan lives at Kentucky.

Hard to replicate the season he just had in terms of efficiency, but I would imagine Milan will continue to be one of the best shooters in college basketball.
This, 100% agree.

I think Milan will still be one of the better shooters in the NCAA this season but I definitely could see his efficiency/usage taking a hit for sure. As you said, Kentucky's offense is nothing like Iowa State's but Pope will find a way to use Milan & create looks... he's really not a horrible coach, just in a win-now or out come the pitchforks situation.

As much as I loved watching Milan with the Cyclones, he’s a role player. He’s an elite shooter, one of the best of all time in college. But he’s not a great rebounder, ball handler, or defender. Because of his elite shooting, I think he’ll have a good career in the NBA, maybe similar to Kyle Korver. But he’s not worth 6 million in college. He seems like a classy guy, and I hope he does well. I don’t have any hard feelings.

I think that you have to be pretty dumb to have hard feelings here. Guess it's easy to say he should have stayed loyal to ISU, but $6M is huge money. Like more than any of us will see in our lifetime money. That's not having to work another day in your life money if you don't want to for one year of ball.

I'm not sure about the NBA. If it was a sure thing, he would have been a late first rounder and stayed in the draft. I feel like he can have a career like Niang, but he definitely isn't as crafty with the ball as Niang is.

Yes, people get numb to these big numbers but think about it this way.

$6.5 Million. Let's say he invests half of it with the other half going to taxes, a couple of crazy buys like a nice car and his first year of living expenses.

$3.25M at a 7% return which isn't crazy is $227,500 to live on each year without touching the principal.

I don't know about you all, but I am living on just over half of that with a family while still investing in retirement which he won't have to do since he still has over $3M for retirement. And I don't have benefits like world class free health care, free training table meals whenever I want, free housing. He also gets a degree without a lick of debt going forward.

If you want to be really conservative assume 5% return which is still $162,500 per year. And that is assuming he doesn't make another dime from his playing career or after sports job.

For. One. Year. Of. Play.

I will be interested in how Milan deals with the pressure. You think people on this board calling for JJ to be benched after bad games is bad? KY fans are nuts! If he has a couple of off nights or misses important shots, their fans will want their 6.5 million back and try to run him out of town. How he deals with that will determine his season.

I love MIlan and wish he was back, but JJ and Tamin set him up quite often as other teams had to respect those two. Plus they had played with Milan for 2 years so they knew where he would be on the floor. Will he mesh with the new team.

I hope he does well except if we have to play them. But i think his numbers will be down

Any thoughts anyone
Chances are that Kentucky will have players good enough for other teams to respect so they can't double team Milan. Whether they will be as good at passing to him when the defense collapses on them is another story. I think a bigger concern for him is a tall, athletic defender who can bother his shot. Those are the types of players with whom he had the most difficulty.

I've posted this before but if he can gain weight/strength to post up consistently, that one-legged fade shot is impossible to guard and would increase his chances of getting to the NBA immensely.

Opponents who put their stopper on Milan generally stopped him. If Kentucky has multiple offensive options, he may not have the same level of defender on him and may do better. Kentucky didn't really show that this year though with different over paid players.

Why would I care?

The one thing that he provides is spacing. When he was out with a broken hand in 2025, all of a sudden Tamin and Keyshon STRUGGLED getting to the rim. I agree that if a team has a long athletic 3/4 that sticks on him, he's not hard to stop. UK fans that expect him to score 20ppg and hit 45% from 3 are probably going to be disappointed. But, his shooting ability does make everyone else better.
