We have been covering Donut Lab’s claims with skepticism since the company shocked the battery world at CES 2026 with claims of a 400 Wh/kg, 100,000-cycle, 5-minute-charging solid-state battery. In January, I interviewed CEO Marko Lehtimäki and told him directly that he was either going to lose all his credibility or revolutionize the world. It looks like it was the former.

I've been following this story since this spring. I didn't bother posting because everyone seemed to think it was total BS. Seems they were right.

Other than being a passenger in Tesla's and a few Waymo rides, I have no experience with electric vehicles, and given that my Jeep will be paid off with next months payment, I'm not really looking for a new vehicle right now. BUT, I really like the R2

R2 wise you are looking probably well over a year out if you got in line right now anyway.

Crazy...

For a large purchase, my wife and I have always been relatively "spur of the moment" in buying vehicles. Bought my Jeep when I wasn't even looking at vehicles a week prior. My wife test drove and bought her current car while I was out of town for 4 days....

The idea of putting down a deposit, and maybe I have my new Rivian in August of 2027, means I will never buy one.

To be fair there are 2+ years of people getting in line ahead of you for what is looking like a very popular vehicle. The emails reservation holders got today indicates they will find time lines on ordering etc. in the next month.

Just got back. Super impressive car. They will sell everyone they make and then some.

Very smooth, very quiet. Much more so than my R1S. A ton of space inside, but a much smaller footprint, which is what my wife wants. She thinks the R1S is way too big.
I drove one in April. Much better than R1S, which feels more like a bigger SUV.

But they flamed the Osborne effect with the R3

Reminds me of the new broncos. First I’ve seen it, was thinking it was a pickup when you guys talked about it. Not my thing.

$60k for an R2 Performance seems like an amazing deal considering you have to pay $50k (over MSRP!) for a hybrid Rav4 right now (used ones going over original MSRP too - crazy!).

I think Rivian nailed it with this - perfect size/luxury/performance/style/price point.

Just bought a used car for the first time in a very long time a few weeks ago.

The entire used car market is insane.

I was curious so just hopped on Carvana and comparable 2016 Ford Explorers to mine with ~100k miles are going for $17k. That's insane. I paid $27k for it used at the end of 2016 with ~16k miles and the MSRP new on it was $40k.
