Milan Momcilovic withdraws from the 2026 NBA Draft

It’s very simple.

Fans root for their team. Players that play for other teams are inherently to be rooted against. Same for fans of professional teams

Although Haliburton didn’t exhaust his eligibility, he doesn’t play for another team. He plays in the NBA.

Big difference

Milan made the right decision. But I root against all other teams, particularly blue bloods
That’s fine. That’s your right.

I’m not wired that way. I’m a Broncos fan but I still root for Brock Purdy

This is why it’s hard for me to get worked up over Milan. Both parties were put in a tough spot with the way the calendar is set up.

It sounds like MM and Otz have communicated the entire way. Otz did the right thing building a roster assuming we were moving on. It is what it is.

If you read between the lines of what Cycity has said over the last few days, I’d beg to differ on this. I don’t think TJ hates him or anything crazy. But I bet there’s some hard feelings at the moment.

I actually will somewhat disagree with this. Say he ends up at Kentucky. When/if he makes the NBA his college will be listed as “Kentucky” under his name every time. They always pick the last school they attended. Was he a Cyclone? Yes. Will he be a Cyclone in the eyes of most? No.
I understand that, but who really cares about that? Yeah, it would be nice to see "Iowa State" as his school but so what. He knows he was a Cyclone and Cyclone fans do as well. He has not burned any bridges, yet, and I don't think he will.

Fans also should hold back on judgement, not saying that anyone is really judging him either. The situation with him is very unique and is very different than anything that could have happened 10 years ago. And would some think of him differently if he were to ever write a substantial check to ISU athletics? He will have the money to do so.

It is kind of fun to talk about. Sad but fun in a strange way.

Speaking of great Cyclones:

Agree…. but we do have to acknowledge the fact that Niang also has said that if they had NIL in his time, he might have left too.

I also would like to think Milan is different than Becht and Brahmer, etc…. but do we know if Milan would have stayed here after his sophomore season if TJ had left?

How many of these athletes are truly “Cyclones”?

Momcilovic being a sleeper agent that keeps Pope at Kentucky—thereby limiting their potential for the foreseeable future—would be the only enjoyment I'd get out of this situation
I am not sure Michael Jordan could make Pope successful on Kentucky. Talent has not been the issue - molding them into a team is the issue. If Pope wanted to stay at Kentucky past next year, he went after the wrong Cyclone - he should of stolen Kyle Green or JR Blount.

Young'uns today root more for individual players than teams. Us old timers are more loyal to our original teams. Probably why I'm still a damn dumb Vikings fan

Why? For me it's simple - if he's at ISU I'm all in on him and if he's at another school then **** him. Same principle for anyone and everyone else.

Because he hasn't "officially" decided not to come back yet. Can we wait and bash him AFTER he goes to another team?

Yea, with how NIL is going it's clearly demonstrated players don't really care about the schools or their fans. After he makes 6 mil and then goes to the NBA, in all honesty why would he think about Iowa State. After transferring why would we want to stay connected with him in recruiting purposes, he's not going to donate, etc.
Why would he not donate? He spent 3 years here...he left to check the NBA waters. TJ had a sit down with him and they BOTH understood the situation. Both seem ok with it after the fact. It doesn't seem like there's any animosity between them. He may donate if for nothing more than to make things right with ISU.

I just assume at this point that every athlete at every school needs to be re-recruited every year, or they will likely be leaving.

Toure, Bateman, and Buchanan I believe all sent out tweets this offseason that they were going to return. But I don’t recall them ever entering the portal?

He also didn't show up when it mattered. Congrats to him when he hit some shots against Arizona at the end of the half, what else did he do. The past two NCAA tourneys he did nothing and we lost. All I'm saying is I won't be sad when he's being attacked by Kentucky fans when he doesn't show up in big moments.
Can’t not show up to something that doesn’t exist.

He would not be at ISU next year even without being able to pay players.

He’d stay in the draft
I believe you are correct. That's what's odd to me about the hurt feelings. Milan played 3 years for ISU, arguably the best 3-year stretch in Cyclone mbb history. He talked it over with TJ, no surprises. Tyrese was a 2-year Cyclone with the 2nd being a bad team and him injured. He jumped to the NBA, understandably. He's idolized, including by me. I don't remember any butthurt posts for him bailing on ISU.

Bottom line, the timing of the portal and the NBA decision made this a done deal.

Wasn’t there some talk that his camp was somewhat unhappy last year and he was considering leaving? Either way, Milan was a great player for us. He easily won’t crack my top 15 favorites of the modern era. And the fact that he left plays a big part of that.

Tyrese has shown with his actions that Iowa State is very important to him. He’s given a lot of money. He’s come back often for all sports. He seemed legit honored that he got the Olympic banner.
This is pretty much my POV as well. I value highest the guys that continue to be Cyclones once they've left/graduated, just like us. That's why someone like Gary Thompson is so revered, and while they're certainly not at that level, guys like Tyrese, Niang, Shirley and I'm guessing Tamin will be the same.

Milan was the #1 3pt shooter in the nation last year, and he still didn't make the cut in the NBA. Next year he will be 12 months older (detriment to NBA) and he will probably not repeat as the #1 3 point shooter; so making the NBA next year is not guaranteed unless he makes a huge improvement defensively. I wonder if TJ still has a chance. Or maybe Milan is taking the max money today, while discounting his long term professional role.

The old saying is - never ask your barber if you need a haircut. Milan's agent is his barber.

Look at his season in totality. Remember, our schedule, particularly the conference slate, was pretty soft until the last couple of weeks. Milan shot 38% from 3 after February. Scored 6 pts (2-7; 28.6% from 3) and had zero rebounds against Tennessee.

I’m not trying to bash him. Just want to add some context.

That’s not Brian’s problem (or Milan’s in this case). That’s your choice.
I think this boils down to some people being jealous that some people get to play a game for a living and make more then then putting 8 to 10 hours a day for the rest of their lives. They must really hate the young e gamers making millions as well.
