Just for all you Ankeny bashers

It's political in nature obviously so it would get people worked up who can't handle that outside the cave, plus it's not that hard to Google ankeny mama bears.
So having googled it, yes, totally worth 'cuz it's ******* hilarious in terms of drama.

I also discovered that they have a website where they take "donations" ... That they straight up profit on. Intentionally stating they don't give back charity receipts and are not a charity. They are "meant to operate as a for-profit business" LMAO. Dying over here, too funny. Whoever fell for this was an absolute moron.

Anyway, back to Ankeny's 3 main roads and now 19 different Mexican places.

Honestly I just don't feel like typing out 6 year old Ankeny drama and will probably misremember some key details. It definitely took a hilarious, sad and predictable turn for all involved though.

They've got their own promo code for My Pillow. lololol

If it weren't for ISU, Ames would be Boone. There's a reason why more people choose to live in Ankeny, even when you include ISU's total enrollment.
Ok. If it weren’t for Des Moines, Ankeny would be a couple farmsteads. What’s your point?

Ankeny Pros:
Good parks and trails
Good schools
Relatively affordable tract homes

Ankeny Cons:
Terrible traffic for a city its size
Lack of good/local places to eat (has improved somewhat in recent years)
Limited personality/culture/architecture (filled with strip malls, box stores, and suburban homes)

There are far worse places to live, but its just a nondescript suburban city with not much to get really excited about.

Are you a paid employee of the city or just trying to get the Mayor to honor you with the Key to the city? Its ok for people to not like Ankeny. you dont have to argue half the posts.

I think it’s funny when people get sensitive about the town they live in.

It’s just a place e to live, why do we need to be rah rah about a place to live.

And any of these “great places …..” things are corny. Just look at how many “great places to work” there are.

Johnston. My favorite area I've lived in Des Moines and I've lived in all but the Southside.

I recently worked in Johnston for 10 years and was NOT impressed. It was convenient to run errands over lunch in Urbandale and Grimes though.

I like that it's kind of out of the way but still quick to get to most places and every bit as nice as Waukee or Ankeny. Ankeny is a zoo.

There are some hidden gems, but I ain't telling you. Words starts getting out too much and the tourists will find out about them. They can eat their Mexican and chain restaurants and like it.

I guess my point is that even with a large state university, Ames is still smaller than Ankeny. It's interesting to note that Ames did not exist until 5 years after Iowa State University was established.

When looking for new homes last year, I really want to find something in Ankeny but it seems like everything was either really cheap from national builders, or way over our budget. Waukee, Urbandale, and Grimes had a lot more options in our price range.

Congrats.

It’s still one of the worse places to drive through.
Is it really that bad? It’s just one quarter mile radius that is annoying. This saying is as overused and incorrect as bashing big 12 defenses.

And if you are coming to Delaware from inside of Ankeny, especially from the north, it’s not bad at all.

Spot on. It is a relatively boring generic suburb. If that's what you want, Ankeny crushes that role as a stopgap between both DSM and Ames. If you want more from the list of cons, you start having to look at places like WDSM instead.

I feel like when anyone complains about an area that has all chain restaurants and no local restaurants it's because they just aren't very knowledgeable about the area.

Eh, even living here I'd say while the rest isn't as bad as Delaware, the rest is rather poorly laid out. one of the NS roads really needed to be more designed for flow through the city rather than a million stoplights. It legitimately might take less time for me to go from my house in SE ankeny to WDM than it does to go from my house to the north side of ankeny driving through town.

Hopefully some of these projects on Ankeny blvd will improve things, but overall the lights in general seem to be poorly managed. Theyre always talking about updating light timings, while WDM had adaptive signals at most of its intersections a decade+ ago.
