Fran vs Media

Unequal revenue sharing is coming to P2 as long as player compensation isn’t capped. The biggest brands gave up a lot of their advantage in the change to player compensation with transfer portal. Plus CFP. Unequal revenue sharing is a way to recoup some of that brand advantage

Nearly all P5 jobs were “do not screw up” types- riding the inflationary TV rights to more revenue in the equal revenue sharing era. Captive market that were inherently still growing based on living alumni increase. Even more true in BIG & SEC. Basically came down to hiring, which even for those good at it, a crapshoot.

In the last decade, ADs have started to need to navigate disruption. P2 schools
It's just blindingly obvious at this point. Where greed is the rule of the day, it is simply a matter of time before the Ohio States and Michigans of the world tire of Purdue and Rutgers getting these massive checks simply for being there.

Probably true. I don't know that we lose BG to any of those though, my hunch is that she'll head back the Carolinas if/when given the chance. Can't see her heading out west but I'm sure if a USC came calling she'd have a hard time turning that down.
And maybe she just really likes Iowa City and becomes a Pollard-esque figure.

I have no idea what her ambitions are.

In defense of the local media on this:

The coaches vs. cancer event was a fundraiser, not a game. Keith didn't want this to be a story because it makes the news story more about him instead of focusing on the event, which was a cancer fundraiser.

Even Iowa State stories about players and coaches didn't come out until after they were gone. There is a thread on this site that is about stories that enough time has passed that they could be told. I'm sure there are many stories of coaches or players that CW or Blum could tell, that many consider "newsworthy", but they keep it to themselves. I'm sure many of the local sports media knew about Larry's drinking problems that didn't make the news.

Most of these "incidents" are tied more to Fran's wife and Connor. Marge was the one heckling and the one likely making a lot of these "decisions". Media going after wives and family of coaches is usually considered a big no-no in sports media.

I think she'll hang around at least long enough to hire KF's replacement, after that who knows but I don't see her ending her career at Iowa. Barta had no choice, I doubt any other quality school was interested. BG will have opportunities.

I caught some kxno this AM. I heard the absolute tail end of Busse talking but he mentioned Marg at Iowa practices. Anyone hear what that was about?

She will hang around until a much better job comes around, as far as I know she has no ties to Iowa or the EIU. So she can wait it out and get in line for the next time an Ohio State, Michigan or some job like that opens up.

She doesn't, she's from Missouri originally but went to school and played soccer at Brevard and Clemson. If she hits another homerun with the football HC hire I agree she'll probably move on to that level of school next.

Always made me curious what JP could do with Big10 money.
Says a lot about ADs and revenue generation. They’ve historically been more middle management than CEO, with balance sheet largely determined.

Does the BIG money let him survive bad hires and not expect having a say

This is the takeaway from this all.

100%, and this goes back to my post the other day where these guys are nothing but just fans with press passes and they're afraid to lose their front row access because they feel like they're apart of it. In their minds, being a fan blogger>being a journalist. Hell, the only reason why Hlas was able to stick around for so long, despite being the only one there who was remotely objective, was because Ferentz actually liked him.

Whole family is piect of work. Is CC still part of that family? Tells you all you need to know about her, too.
Which is too bad for CC. She had a brother walk on to the ISU football team so you know her current personality isn't an exact indication of how she might've been raised, but rather could have been strongly influenced by her time in Iowa City. Would make for an interesting nature vs nurture case study someday.

I used to work with Blake. Really nice guy, super humble and pretty kept to himself.
