B12 EADA Earnings: What does ISU need to do?

I would have liked to seen the legislature put a tax on online betting with the proceeds being used to fund the 20 million at all 3 state universities. Any excess being directed into the general fund.
The state could easily do that, what I have read Iowa has some of the lowest tax rate on online betting in the country, and would be easy to raise that tax up and then turn around and give it to the 3 state supported schools.

Breece Hall?
Tyrese Haliburton?
Brock Purdy?
Georges Niang?
Milan Momcilivic?
Josh Jefferson?
Xavier Hutchinson?
Jaylen Noel?
Jayden Higgens?

Just a few ideas.
Better limit the NFL guys to the older ones with lots of guaranteed $. Better limit the NBA guys to those actually have made or are making big $. That leaves only those top 4. Then consider none of those guys played for the current ISU coaches.

I do wonder how common it is for pro athletes to donate to their schools.

I'm having a hard time getting my hands ringing about this. There's way too much money in college sports already. If you look at results, our program is in the top third of the conference.

I think this a great idea!

However, I'm concerned that all the Hawk fans in the state government will set up some sort of allocation where ISU gets screwed!

Everybody on that list can afford to donate a nice chunk. Especially the top 4.

You sure about that Curt?

I figured they would report under the same Fiscal Year rules that tax returns for fiscal year filers follow. Essentially whatever the year is that starts the fiscal year is the reporting year.

If your fiscal year is 10/1/24 to 9/30/25, then that is the 2024 fiscal year.
If your fiscal year if 7/1/23 to 6/30/24, then that is the 2023 fiscal year.

It confuses the hell out of my not for profit fiscal year clients.

And several of those guys have been pumping money into the NIL system already.

That is why I wanted just the simple 20 million to all 3 state schools and then the rest to the general fund. No allocation, no proportionment. Just a flat 20 million across the board to pay for the NCAA mandated 20 million. In theory Iowa shouldn't even need it with their TV money, but it would really help ISU and UNI. Without Iowa getting the same it would never pass IMO. They always come out ahead on their academic budget anyway from the state when they shouldn't.

Government (at least state and local in Iowa) FY is the ending year of the reporting period.
