Milan Momcilovic tweets "entering NBA draft and portal"

Just really need Milan to crush these workouts, because with each passing day I feel Kentucky's desperation growing and fear the offer will be too good to turn down without a first round guarantee or more. That would be a tough situation to see.

I would be ok with him going to Kentucky more than say Arizona or Kansas. The chances of us running into Kentucky again are pretty low. I don't like Kentucky at all but I am fine with him going to school there. I would much rather him go pro though

I know he doesn't want to transfer but if he ended up at a different school it would certainly impact his legacy as a cyclone, he would no longer be one. Kentucky will claim him when he's in the NBA.

His situation is different than other outgoing transfers we have had and maybe in 5 years I'll feel different but that's how I personally feel.

Whole system is screwed up.

Little coverage in terms of getting drafted higher or in terms of evaluating his season as a whole?

If it's the former, it's easy to see why. He lacks any sort of athleticism so you're essentially getting a 3 point specialist at the NBA level, a Kyle Korver at best, which is a good player to have but a player with limited upside.
For instance, my Pistons are drafting at 21 and they need 3 point shooting but they already got a guy like this in Chaz Lanier in the 2nd round and I wouldn't take a guy like that at 21. That's where I expect Milan to go, probably early 2nd.

If it's the latter, he absolutely deserves more coverage. 43% on high volume 3 point shooting and came up big come tournament time outside of the Tennessee game unfortunately. He was big time for the most part.
He shot 49% on 3s this season. 43% is elite. 49% is unreal.

For reference, in Steph Curry's best NBA season, he shot 45.5%. Obviously it's not a straight comparison but still.

The system is screwed up. However, I would argue we at Iowa State has benefited off this system more than any other team, starting with the Royce White year. I mean we just stole 5 recruits from other schools. So while yes it does suck with no sitting out after transfering, we have benefited a ton from it.

The Athletic has an article yesterday about players in their opinion would be better off returning to school, and Milan was one of those that would be better off spending another year in school and getting NIL money. They thought he would at best be a 2nd round pick and could make more money returning than going through the draft and falling into the 2nd round without the guaranteed money.

No doubt we have benefitted greatly from it.

In this particular case though I think the only reason he's in the transfer portal is because the draft and the portal don't line up well and Iowa State had to let him go or get screwed again.

Should the portal only open after the draft is done? I don't know. The portal being officially open means nothing when agents are talking with coaches the whole season and there are no repercussions.

Can't have the portal any later. Kids have to be able to get enrolled for summer school regardless of whether or not still calling them 'student athletes' is a farce.

I'm always of the opinion if someone claims they don't play defense in the NBA, they don't know ball.

the NBA is a different beast that it creates an illusion that they don't. If you want to see true no defense watch the all-star game but the whole season NBA players play defense.

The pace is way faster, big man can all pass and shoot, 3 second rule in the lane, offenses are spaced out more, and rules favor the offense.

And lastly you are going against the top offensive players in the world. The reason they look like they don't play defense is because the offense is so good but that doesn't mean they don't play defense. If you watch the rotations, switches, closeouts, and playoff adjustments, the defense is incredibly advanced.
The reason it looks like they "don't play defense in the NBA" I think is just because most of the players/teams are so good on offense.

All fair statements, however, the defense during the regular season is not the same as in the playoffs.

Makes sense, why would a second or third rotational player try to help his value by playing hard?

Better off next year, certainly, but with that comes the risk that he doesn't shoot as well and doesn't get drafted at all the following year.

That goes for all sports though. In college basketball, teams play harder in March. I am not arguing the level of defense is the same in the regular season. I'm arguing against the idea they don't play defense in the regular season.

I'm a bigger college basketball fan than NBA so this isn't some NBA bias i have.

Counter argument would be he is coming off a historic year. I'm not sure he can duplicate his shooting next year if he returns to college. Would he still be drafted next year if he shoots say 43%?

This is the thing that grinds me the most - if he transfers he is no longer a Cyclone. It's a small thing and doesn't really matter, but every Pacers game I attend it brings me immense joy and personal satisfaction to hear "6-5 point guard out of Iowa State... Tyreeeeese HALIBURTONNNNNN"

And what's even the point of sports fandom if it's not to feel that emotion and connection?!

I would bet that even if that happened, Milan would still say Iowa State.

I wonder how much the A.J. Green experience will impact Milan. He has seen someone find "his spot" and then make it work. And I suspect that he has talked to Kyle Green alot about it.

What is the amount that UK is rumored to be offering? $5 million? If so...and he is on the bubble between 1st/2nd round...he should take that money without zero regrets! I wanted him to come back as much as anyone on this board...but I wouldn't blame him one bit if he takes that much money and plays for UK!
