So is the consensus that MC ultimatey left for his own reasons or that he may have stayed if things here were done differently here? Primarily in regard to NIL & the way in which JP handles it at ISU. Seemed that was discussed quite a bit right after he bailed.
Definitely choice A there. If we had USC money and ISU fans things may have been different. B. is just accounting, and no number shuffle would have changed things at all.

I don't hold anything against Matt for leaving. We have seen our football team's best success since he was here. We have also seen really good players come through here under his watch.

My one critique would be his quote a few years ago about how people were "embarrassed" to wear cyclone gear before he showed up. I knew this day would eventually come. Matt is moving on to bigger and better things but I will still be here cheering on my Cyclones like a loyal son forever true.
That's just it...players, coaches...
they come and go.
Fans are here
through thick and thin though.

I think you might be confusing NIL and revenue sharing. The revenue sharing piece is controlled by the AD and is the 21 million that every school gets. The problem, I believe, is that if a company wanted to do an NIL deal with a football athlete using ISU logos, that money wouldn’t go to the athlete, but the revenue sharing pot. While other schools were coordinating deals with their athletes and corporate sponsors to pay their top athletes on top of their revenue sharing portion, ISU was trying to trying to consolidate those funds for themselves to control. This sounds like it also prevented coaches to raise funds for their programs for their athletes as well.

My understanding is that this happens with Audi Crooks. If Fareway wanted to use ISU gear in their ads, that money would have gone into the revenue sharing pot, and not directly to Audi. Fareway decided to go directly to Audi, and those ads don’t have ISU gear in them.

Now, with the new president, it sounds like he forced Jamie’s hand to allow coaches to peruse corporate deals to raise funds/coordinate NIL deals in addition to the revenue share piece. And it sounds like, at least for men’s basketball, there were sponsors sitting on the sideline because they wanted their money for a specific program/athlete and not the revenue sharing pot.
All this would happen at ISU if the rev share amount was funded. It isn't. If ISU got Big 10 or SEC tv money how you describe is exactly how JP would run things. You can't just create a new unbudgeted 20+ million out of thin air. Unless you write the check.

The problem is that it sounds like there were corporate sponsors sitting on the sidelines willing to fund specific athletes/programs, but didn’t because of Jamie’s way have handling it. Money was being left on the table.

I understand Jamie’s approach and why he’d want to do it that way. But ISU isn’t a program that can leave money on the table. We have had a top 15 men’s basketball program the last couple of years, and to stay their, we need NIL above revenue share to keep it there. Jamie’s way of handling it could have put that in jeopardy in future seasons.

I know the difference but was being a little lazy in the description. And I’m not sure this is accurate. I thought it was that using the logo and ISU name in an athlete deal required a cut that would go to the AD and into the rec sharing pool. Which if ISU is already not making the rev sharing max, then it seems a bit like Robbing Peter to pay Paul. And of course if the value is dramatically drops or an NIL deal falls through without it, kind of tells you how much the athlete themself has in say advertising value vs the ISU name.

Now if JP was trying to get athletes to do NIL deals with the ISU name and all of it went to the rev sharing pool without the athlete in the ad getting the direct benefit, I find it hard to believe JP, or frankly anybody running any sort of business unit would be that stupid.

What we heard the supposed dispute was that if a donor specified football, JP would count that toward their earmarked allocation of the rev share until the max was met.

That’s some horrible logic, but I get the cope

Several things had CMC ready to leave, including JP/NIL. Once on the market, of course he landed a better job, with better NIL and a lack

Had he left in a lateral move, to another place in which there would be conflict over limited NIL, then one could conclude NIL/JP didn’t play a part of his decision

lol nah the post you quoted was correct, yours is not.

I just cringe every day at the "Matt Campbell and Penn State in the final stages" thread...Like this fanbase needs reminded about it every. damn. day.
I can honestly say I was over it in about 24 hours. But I still find the whole thing interesting and worthy of discussion. I'll definitely be watching Penn State games.
