WBB: Coach Schaben moving on

Not saying it's the right thing for the future of ISU WBB but my guess is he is probably more motivated/dug-in to Coach now than he has been in several years. I'm sure he's heard all the criticism and I'm guessing he would love nothing more than to shut those critics up.
Could have said the same thing after each of the last five seasons…

Plus ISU wasn't going to by him out, so he would also be giving up ~$2 Million to retire 1 year early.
as some have commented on here about the players getting their money would you leave 2 million dollars on the table?

Plenty of room now to make Emily an actual assistant?
Emily is finishing the first year of her graduate program, so may be a stretch to be a full time assistant and go to grad school. Not saying it can't be done, she would have to weigh the options to determine what is best for her.

Depending on the program, it could be a challenge indeed. Having a full time job would be challenge enough. Adding in the additional travel beyond the season for recruiting, etc. could make things very difficult.

Didn't she get her first year of grad school done with her 5th year of eligibilty?

Emily was a student athlete for 5 seasons (4 + Covid year). I'm not 100% sure, but I bet she had completed part of her graduate program before becoming a graduate assistant.

She is listed as a first-year graduate student in the ISU Directory.
Don't you have to be in Grad School to be a Grad Assistant? So who's to say she would not just drop Grad school if offered a full time Assistant Position? Just thinking out loud....

I guess it would depend on how close she is to completing the degree. But, unless the degree was a means to have the grad assistantship versus a next step professionally, going full time would be logical. I really wouldn't be surprised to see her take that step.

Pretty strong rumors he wanted Billy to be named coach in waiting... He's just old and angry now, trying to save his reputation of his own undoing..

She's married to politician Scott Schaben.

When Paul Schaben of Carroll, IA passed away in March, casket bearers included a "Scott Schaben" and a "B.J. Schaben", so if those are the Scott and B.J. we are talking about then it appears they are at least cousins of some sort.

Unfortunate middle name.

Bringing in someone from another program to be associate head coach instead of promoting Billy may not fit this narrative. We have the same problem Iowa did with Kirk and Brian Ferentz where Billy likely reports to Jamie but Bill is still really his boss. If Bill really wanted Billy to be the coach in waiting I think he likely would have promoted him to associate HC as that is likely his call not Pollard's even with the way the reporting structure is or if Pollard was onboard with that plan it would of happened too.
