Donovan Davis announced on May 6th that he committed to the Cyclones!!!

At this point, I am serious. We don’t really have much of a data set though, so I could be completely wrong. Kind of why I said “post Stirtz”.
McCollum should just be thankful the NCAA tournament was expanded so his 10th place team in the B1G will be in the dance next year.

I find it hilarious, but not surprising, that a team that lost 13 games and wasn't ranked in the top 25 most of the year thinks its head coach is all that, all because of a slop run to The Elite 8. It's so on par.
On the other hand we consistently have strong regular seasons while climbing up the rankings and then underachieve in the post-season. Is one really better than the other?

Only on page 2 and the topic is already turning into ISU vs Iowa thread. But to answer your question, remember Jerome Tang even made the elite 8 in his first year as coach at KSU. Give me sustained success instead of a one hit wonder that came out of nowhere

But back to the topic at hand, I think ISU has the edge here. Davis visited ISU last (always best to be first or last), WI has proven to be a great recruiting hotbed for ISU, and there is even a crystal ball prediction for ISU after his visit this week. I am very optimistic we land Davis

Yes because enjoying a season for 4 months can easily overcome the disappointment of getting beat in the NCAA tournament.

My guess is the people who say otherwise don't pay attention until the NCAA tournament because I can't imagine being a 10th place Big 10 team who didn't get their first quad 1 win until February while losing to several bottom feeders is a lot more fun because they lasted 24 hours longer in the NCAA tournament.

I’ll honestly be shocked if he chooses either Wisconsin or Marquette. I think it’s really 3 schools. Iowa State, Iowa and Nebraska. To @LLCoolCY point, TJ has fostered that relationship a lot longer than the other two. Might mean good news, but we’ll see.

I do think people are underestimating McCollum. If he remains successful post Stirtz, he’s going to be a major thorn in our side, I’m afraid.

I will start to worry once McCollum wins a head to head recruiting battle against TJ for a recruit like this.

When is the last time Iowa won a head to head recruiting battle against Iowa State? Other than kids who grew up life long Hawk fans (Wieskamp, Uthoff, etc...) I can't recall any.

TJ has OWNED recruiting in the upper midwest for the last 3-4 years.

The Elite 8 was a huge windfall for Iowa Basketball and we shall see how they do moving forward without Stirtz. Jess Settles even said that the Hawks beating Florida was a 1 out of 10 occurrence. But, they did it when it counted and it's tough to totally discount that.

Continued success in any power conference is tough as other coaching staffs will eventually come up with ways to be successful against most offensive or defensive tendencies.

how can you possible know this after what, six weeks? you obviously aren't saying that because of their portal gets because they aren't good.

True, I was thinking about more than recruiting although I think the Elite 8 run gets them in the conversation on better recruits as opposed to if they had lost in the first week.

Also, it was a huge bit of excitement for their fans. The past 3 years I've seen 3X more Caitlin Clark gear than anything related to their MBB program in Cedar Rapids. Now Hawk fans are actually talking about MBB again. I'm not worried about the overall program passing ISU, but, I do think they've made a great hire.

This is such a lazy assessment.
It's not lazy, it's important to discuss. The fact that TJ has squads that are consistently GOOD is important and meaningful. Ya can't break through without being GOOD, unless you're just insanely and undeservedly lucky like Iowa was in March. We are going into year 6. The program is in amazing shape. We are still hopefully very early in the TJ era. The expectations are correctly shifting to - let's get past the sweet 16 and be a program that keeps doing that...

Saying a Sweet 16 is an underachievement is they lazy assessment. In the Sweet 16, its basically all good teams and you're looking at a coin flip game or maybe a little better. Add in the fact that your top, all American player got hurt and its not an under achievement at all.

Year 1: Massive overacheivement
Year 2: Moderate underachievement but a 6 losing to an 11 isn't insane
Year 3: Lost a coinflip game
Year 4: Lost a coinflip game without 1 star and another hobbled start
Year 5: Lost a coinflip game without an All American.

Would like to win more of these coinflip games, but if the team was fully healthy the last 2 years and lost, I'd be more concerned.
