TJ signs 10 year extension

That is the difference maker. I saw a mini documentary on North Dakota State and their athletic department. Current president Dr. Cook was the president of NDSU. The documentary points out how beneficial having a championship level athletic program is to the over all health of the university. The documentary focused on the monster football program that NDSU has.

The stars aligned just right for the Dr. Cook, Jamie Pollard, and TJ Otzelberger merger to happen.
maybe not so much those two.. but for sure doc cook

Made deliveries today, talked with some customers, we all agreed that it is big numbers, but if we want to keep TJ they needed to be and we all agreed it was a good thing.

Are these real? If so, WTF are people complaining about with the $4mill?

Searching for a few of those, here's what I found:
  • Bill Self: Was $5 million, now $4 million (as of 4/1) (Source)
  • Dan Hurley: $3 million (Source)
  • Todd Golden: $2 million is for an NBA job, $11 million for a college job (Source)
  • Scott Drew: Reportedly, $4.5 million (Source)
  • Tommy Lloyd: $11 million in year 1, down to $3 million in year 4 (Source)

So the results from Google AI weren't exactly right, but they were largely right.

Johnny came to isu first year for 52k....think about that for a minute

We owe him everything
I think that number was the AD portion. There was radio show, tv show, shoe money and camp money on top of that. Plus, after 2 years, Johnny never paid for a meal or a drink in Story County. The total was probably closer to 100k - still an insanely low number for what was, if not the highest paid coach in the country, definitely top five at the time. ISU called about Frieder and Orr took it himself.

WTF don't some people on here complain about?
Anyone complaining doesn't understand the current landscape of college athletics. It is virtually impossible to write a contract with language that guarantees the institution will "remain competitive" with NIL because nobody knows what it will take to do that every year. The only solution is to let the coach decide if he is getting enough to stay competitive. It's like in Ocean's 13 where Bank was trying to get the whales back.

My question is does a buyout even matter at this point? Sure, you want to tag somethiing on to help out the University if a coach does go, but with the money being thrown around by some of these schools, I can't imagine any number would matter if another school really wanted your coach.

And as someone else said, there is always someone on here ready to complain about anything. Just look at the CyTown thread.

The buyout money goes directly to the university, correct? If so, then a high buyout number would result in the university getting more money to reinvest in a program that lost a great coach.

Yes, goes to the University. but when you look around college basketball and big names have a similar or less buyout, you can't really go much beyond that without possibly pissing off TJ.

Probably because ridiculous "buyouts" are in the news far more than the normal stuff.. Kansas State with Tang and Devries at Indiana come to mind immediately.

Dixon’s $8m buyout kept him from leaving TCU for UCLA in 2019, but the world has changed a LOT in 7 years.

It’s not like he came at a discount. He was one of, if not the highest paid coach in the country with that deal at that time.

Those two aren't one of the best 10 coaches in the country, either. None of the top dogs have huge buyouts.
