Milan Momcilovic tweets "entering NBA draft and portal"

I bet goes to another school. Just can't afford him. Hope I'm wrong.
They can afford him, it's just you can't afford the other 5 guys then.

Milan is a TJ guy, but in reality, he doesn't play how the program has evolved. To make him to focal point he needs to rebound, and average prob over 20, and be totally unguardable on the perimeter and the post. . That's not who is is yet.

It's just an unfortunate timing thing. Great player, just odd circumstance. Lot of other schools having same exact issue with the 2nd round guys.

I won't wish him any ill will at another school but the reality is he'd end up at big ten, Sec or blue blood that I just can't bring myself to ever root for any way. I'm not going to cheer for Kentucky or Duke to have success just bc they have former Cyclones.
Northwestern fans are already thinking of different things to chant at Singleton when Iowa State visits for a scrimmage.

We have no obligation to cheer for anyone when they decide to leave for another school.

Nothing but budget. ISU isn’t going to hold his bag and wait.
That's what I said. This lets us move on as if he is going to be somewhere else. If he ultimately decides to come back to college he can then make his decision on where he wants to go. It just lets us build for next year with no hard feelings. I expect he is done at Iowa State, but we could still keep him if he really wanted to. It just likely is less than what we could pay him if he said he is coming back today.

My hope is he either stays in the draft or comes back for less, but we just have to be ok with whatever happens. I'd expect he would still be cheering use on even if he goes somewhere else. It will be a lot like Kelderman IMO.

Working on my coping skills:

Perhaps Milan wants to get his NIL market value strictly as a tool to guage whether or not he stays in the draft?

That is, assuming a second round grading he may be looking to baseline on hypothetical deals with teams that show interest even as an UFA?

If it doesn’t work out maybe he’ll still sign for a big home team discount?

We have no roster spots left. He's gone.

He’s not wrong though. This is NIL. It’s near impossible to retain a guy like Milan their whole career. He’s gonna get paid way more than in Ames.
It's not that I don't think he's right...he might be...but this is a guy that only shows up here when the team is losing to spout off his Bieberisms...so, please excuse me if I think he's not just a wee bit happy that Milan will be with another college team instead of the NBA next year.

Probably been said, but this was largely expected and even Chris Williams and Blum said to expect this to happen. It’s simply a situation where each side needs to look out for their own best interests. But Iowa State can’t wait until near the draft to find out what Milan decides to do. And Milan needs to keep his options open for next year as well

Nothing to read into it; just a causality of the timing between the portal vs the nba draft

Blue bloods will make a spot if he doesn't stay in the draft. Money is no object and kids get "released" from their school all the time.
He has to be one of the top 5 guys in the portal immediately. It would kill me if he was at BYU next year.

The reality is, we need to get used to this. This comes with the success TJ has brought. The team gets more attention and great players on perennial Top 20 teams will have lots of opportunities. If we go through the same thing next year, it will be a good sign.

The good news is TJ has proven he can reload.

I mean, what do people think Milan’s odds are of staying in the draft? Is it 20%? Anything below a top 20 pick and it’s more advantageous to come back to college and soak up the NIL $$ another year.

Nothing precludes him from coming back still. Really stupid that all of the logistics with this don't line up in a way that makes sense.

Like others said this is actually probably helpful to us.

If I were him I would just be planning to come back while still going through the process for more feedback, but get the goal to get to the NBA could be too enticing.
Agree but I would say it's unlikely he is back. He had to enter the transfer portal even if he does come back, because it gives him ope.

Maybe TJ gave him a real deadline and there is no option to come back.
Maybe TJ told him if he wants to come back last minute, they could probably make it work but couldn't guarantee it so best to have a fallback option.

Prather commit in 5, 4, 3, 2....
I think Prather would be a good replacement. He won't make defenses open the floor as much as Milan did, but he shoots 37% from 3. Where he may make up for the lower % is his ball security and, hopefully, quicker feet on defense so people can't drive right by him as frequently. With an offseason with shooting instruction, he could end up at around 40% for the year. (Yes, I do realize it was against lesser competition.)

Of course, with the $ Milan would have been paid here, I'm sure there are other option out there who would be happy to take that money.

You gotta think those big donors at Florida, Kentucky, BYU, Michigan et al. are already getting out their checkbook. Some school will offer Milan stupid money to sign on for one year, that's not the best way to manage ISU's more modest NIL pot. I'm totally on board with the moneyball approach for us.

But yeah, it will hurt to see Milan in a different college uni if it comes to that, really hoping he gets his NBA contract instead.
