How do you approach recruiting at this point?

You sell them on playing time, our crowd support, our history of making the tournament, and the national exposure we get. Any women that commit to us are going to know the likelihood of a coaching change coming in. Expecting a long-term commitment from anyone in the NIL era is foolish since you have to re-recruit everyone every single year anyway.

As much as we like to gripe about certain things, we're still an attractive destination compared to a lot of places. I think we'll be fine. It's just different from what we're used to.
And the water!!!

I agree she ideally isn't back-up pg, because I think she's much better as a 2. But depending on what we get in the portal she may need to be backup PG. Probably not though, because we already have Comito as one PG option.

Thanks for bringing Comito up. She could definitely play a big role. I wouldn't want to rely on her to start, but if she has a solid handle that opens up a lot of minutes. Especially if CBF can find a portal PG with some length.

I find it interesting they wanted Jensen back she would have been one I assumed they told to leave. They must have seen something or knew they just needed bodies lol.

I haven’t watched ISU long enough to even know what we did before the star focused offenses of Carlton, Joens, and Crooks. What was that like? Hopefully we don’t try to force a star that isn’t there.

Personally, I’d like to turn get high effort players and try a high intensity defense. I’m very tired of appearing so slow.

I love how people on this site will describe players as "having Missouri Valley talent". Has everyone forgotten Hannah Belanger, the grad-transfer from Division II Truman State, arguably the motor which made that group of Fabulous Freshman successful?

Former Division II players fueled the Drake MBB team to a sweet 16 run in 2025 and EIU to an elite 8 run in 2026.

I want kids who have a chip on their shoulder because they were overlooked coming out of HS and have something to prove. We reportedly had Bergen Kinnebrew, University of Mary, scheduled for a visit before the team implosion.

Here's the Division II All American list from this season:

Natalie Bremer, Division II POY at UM - Mankato, is from Lake City, MN. Maybe Nate Heise can convince her ISU is the place to spend next season! Postscript: I don't know if she has any remaining eligibility - I'm so used to seeing players in college for five or six seasons...

Anyway, there are talented players all over the place. Baylor had a men's team player (Gillespee) who started his career at DIII school Carleton College a couple years ago. Leave no stone unturned. I can get behind a team of spunky underdogs. I don't want a team of "fourth school in four years malcontents." JMHO

Or, we could always scour the club volleyball circuit, recruit as many 6'4" girls as you can find and teach them basketball over the summer.

We could have Blum and Brend make a documentary of the process. Then, in the fall, we fund our NIL with video sales of Cool Runnings 2: Twister Sisters.
It's not that hard. Tell 'em, Wash...

I also assumed she was asked to transfer out, but based on Jensen coming back maybe it was her decision. I was curious, the most recent true freshman who didn't play much and transferred out was Maggie Vick from 2021/22 season. So maybe the coaches tend to give a player a couple years to prove themselves.

I think any sport beyond FB and MBB is toast at most schools if this NIL sh*t isn't fixed fast. At Iowa State ... given legacy burned out coaching situation.... hope for girls that compete each game and represent the University well.

I don’t mean to be rude here but Jensen played less than 100 minutes in an injury plagued season. Doesn’t exactly move the needle.

MV was here 2 years.

Many forget she did not get on campus till just before school started as she was playing on her countries team. She missed the summer workouts with the rest of the players so the season was a learning issue.

But, thats also why she's back. She's not going to command much money in the portal and now we have plenty of playing time available. I expect her to show us what she can really be next year and i think she'll be a pleasent surprise.

Jensen did decide to come back after Audi chose to leave...don't know if that means anything.
The most generous interpretation is that she felt that she wasn’t going to fit in on an Audi focused team.

There were some flashes of good things when she played, but I feel like her ceiling is a rotational player. Which would be great we need those.

I expect us to take a big step back offensively, which has to be made up with defense. We need length and athleticism.

Well, if we are really doing Cool Runnings 2, we would need track stars and just run everyone out of the gym. Non stop sprinting up and down the court with generous substituting. That would be interesting.
