WBB: 2026 Transfer Portal

I just wanna recap and say this here. A preseason top 10 team who under performed most of the year, has nine of 11 players in the portal. According to most reports the top three players in the portal are from Iowa State. One of the two remaining is staying because of who she dates. But they are keeping an old outdated coach who has one year left on his contract. Now read that again and tell me that the problem does not lie with Bill Fennely. I've always respected Pollard until today. This is gross mismanagement.
EP is not staying because of Blake. Just needed to put that out there. And no, I am not saying why she is. That is for EP to discuss not me.

Then pony up your SSDI moneybags.

It's easier to make those decisions when you aren't in charge of the ENTIRE AD's finances.
It makes financial sense to do it now.

If we make a move now:
- pay his buyout at 300K, (we do not pay the retention bonus because he didn't make it to the required date)
- pay a new coach at 300-400K
- pay a new staff at 200K for all
That total is 900K

if we wait 1 year:
- Retention bonus at 800K
- New HC at 300-400K
- pay a new staff at 200K for all
That's 1.4 million

That's a 500K savings

He has the money and donors to help him.
No doubt about that.

Both started with a top 15 roster and ones going to the final 4 and one lost almost his entire roster after a round 1 exit. I get it’s not a straight comparison in WBB because there’s an established upper echelon, but the dollars aren’t coaching. It’s apparent we need new blood with or without funding.

Declaring a team preseason top 10 is kind of meaningless. Fun that media recognizes the star power of a few names, but that’s all it is worth. Not much talent difference between 10 and 30 right now. A handful of teams with large budgets are way ahead of everyone else talent wise. The parody at the top we saw 2 to 3 years ago is gone.

Well !!!!!!!!

Does this suck or does this suck ?
At least the questions are answered. I'll show up and cheer the players and hope for the best. 64 teams (68) make the tourney. If Bill and staff actually coach next yr. I could see us making it.
It gives Jamie a whole yr to find his next HC.

According to USA Today database => School Buyout includes a $700,000 retention payment that will be made to Fennelly on Aug. 1, 2027, only if he is employed by Iowa State on June 30, 2027, or if he is fired without cause before June 30, 2027.

You think the fanbase is going to turn out for a new unknown coach?

Listen I think it's long past time for Bill to retire, but this comes down to dollars and cents. Does the AD lose less money letting Bill stay another year vs forcing him out.
I think the dependable season tkt holders will show out. Those last couple of yrs before the Audi,Addy class our season tkt numbers exceeded butts in the seats for all but a handful of games.
They will definitely lose the casual fan who was showing up to see Audi.

As it stands now, what’s done is done. Unless CBF Ullstein a Bruce Pearl, he is sticking around. We have 3 young women on the roster and 1 inbound freshmen. Whether we are top or bottom, at this point in the portal world, each year is a move for playing time or money (no matter the coaching situation). So, in the stages of grief over all of this I am trending towards acceptance and what other women the team can get in the portal to field a team. Does the staff bring in 9 to replace 9, bring in less based on rotation and pray that there are no injuries or get extra based on fouls. We could have the all guard team next year…

We really never carry more than 12 or 13 players so I would imagine they look for at least 8 players to fill out the roster. Excited to see what they can find to fill the spots.

You want 3/4 asst. coaches to come here for $200k total? You are cray cray if you think someone is going to work for $50k at that level.
