Easier to write “some” instead of “4 of the 5 would-be starters that all would have been seniors here next year along with 5 of the 7 backups”
You all realize it very likely would change things if ANY one of you walked in and put your money where your mouth is. If you want CBF gone so bad, walk in to JPs office and give him a check for his buyout, plus the buyout of any top coach we will need to bring in, and add a chunk in for a boost to the NIL and Rev Share.
That is the point, we have NO MONEY! How many times does he have to tell people not only have we not funded the Profit share fully, and not even close, but we have no money for our other plans and facilities. Let alone going out and trying to get NIL money above the cap for players.
You know how all those places get rid of coaches across the country? They have big donors come in and not only insist the program changes coaches, but also get out their check books to pay the buyout and set the next coach up.
So, instead of complaining, and whining, if you want him gone so bad, put your money where your mouth is, otherwise just put a sock in it.

The difference in the buyout this year and the retention bonus next year is about the difference between Fennelly's salary and the hypothetical salary of, say, a top mid-major coach to replace him. There are other costs associated with hiring, yes, but there's also big savings that would be had at the assistant level. Point is, if ISU really wanted to do this, money isn't the issue. Pollard just isn't interested.

I suppose there's also a potential cash-flow difference, given that we'd presumably owe him ~$1M within 60 days or whatever instead of paying the $700k retention bonus in Aug 2027 and the "extra" $300k of salary across the 26-27 season. But even that payment timing could have been a negotiating point with this hypothetical negotiated retirement.
On one hand, I love Fennelly's approach -- play hard, coach 'em hard, no BS, attend class, it's the "Iowa State way," etc. On the other hand, something ain't working. Some say you can't coach that way these days, but look at TJ.

Believe me, after going through the Criner years I’ll always take doing things the right way first. Nothing destroys a university reputation faster than doing things the wrong way or creating a scandal.
I get Campbell. Come on, ISU is a level two football school and so is the entire Big 12. PS is a blue blood with more money, better recruiting and a chance at immortality. I can't believe he stayed as long as he did.
Where did JP suggest that RevShare (it sure as hell isn't "Profit Share") wasn't fully funded for 2025-26?
And ISU's Learfield team is working on facilitating NIL deals for ISU athletes.
I am aware of the money issue that is why I fund a scholarship for use by the women's program. As @2speedy1 said donate to a fund to pay for the buy out. Complaining over and over and not finding the money is a waste of time.
I respect what Bill built @ Iowa State. However, if he does not retire and let a new guard take over, I have ZERO respect left for him. Does he not see this?
In no way do TJ and Bill coach the same.
TJ empowers his players to achieve a higher level of capacity than the player thought possible. He communicates his expectations and has composure in the face of adversity. He's a steady hand built on mutual trust and respect.
Bill yells at the girls when they don't live up to his expectation. He's easily unglued in stressful situations, putting the team in a tailspin when stakes become high.
Both teams are a reflection of their coach. I have every confidence that the MBB team will push through adversity and be their best when it hits. I have had no confidence in the WBB team doing the same... they tend to whither in big moments... and that's on Bill, not the girls.
His Iowa state way ******** is a dumb catchphrase with no meaning that he hides behind to cover his average at best coaching abilities.
Pretty sure he's a St. Louis Cardinal fan and stole it from them - "The Cardinal Way" is described as excelling at fundamentals, minimizing mistakes, and maximizing opportunities.
If I remember correctly, he sent an email or video some time ago stating that reserves would be used this year and next to cover the revenue shortage, but the reserves would then run out. I’m guessing that was probably explained at the same time that the donation levels were raised and the sales tax was added on rather than included in the price of season tickets.
