New floor for Big 12 MBB/WBB

Did you not watch Texas Tech's best player try to come to a sudden stop, do the splits, and have to leave the game with a groin injury?

With 3 more games left to play in the Big 12 tournament involving several projected NBA 1st round draft picks, I'm guessing the law suits would be massive if any of those guys suffered serious injuries from the obvious traction problems.

Have you never seen a basketball player get hurt on a wood court? FFS.

Yes, there was more slipping than a typical court, but it's not like they were playing on ice.

Right, but it's perception vs reality right now. If the only thing people are going to remember about the glass court is the perceived increased slippage, they needed to take a step back for a second and reevaluate.

And better court designs (my greatest fear about switching back to wood is it’s going to be that abomination from last year).
I'm guessing it'll be the generic TMobile Center house floor that they'll scramble to get some graphics on.

The floor was bad, and I'm glad it's gone. but the Cyclones PTSD part of me assumes the entire starting 5 will roll an ankle tonight.

100%, I don't disagree that the court isn't quite ready for big time competition. But to point out 1 player slipping & getting a minor injury isn't some magic proof of that.

It wasn’t a disaster, but it also didn’t play like a traditional hard wood court either. I compare it to the different between the courts at the U.S. Open vs Australian Open, in terms of degree. They are pretty close to the same thing (minus the under lighting), but there are slight but noticeable differences in terms of how they react to game/match play on them.

Its about minimizing risk. Yes, injuries happen all the time in every sport, but it’s all about minimizing the risk as much as possible. If there’s more slipping than a normal court, why have your 4 best teams play 1 or 2 more games at an elevated, unnecessary risk? Especially, the week before the Big Dance where all 4 of those teams have realistic chances of a Final 4 run, if healthy.

I'm not sure if you're reading more into what I've said or what. I already said I agreed with the decision to scrap that court & that it's not quite ready.

They can always bring over UMKC's hardwood floor if necessary, it's literally just a few miles from the T-Mobile Arena. I think they sold off the old floor from Kemper.

After Dark reported last night that the 4 semifinal coaches took a vote on the court, and all but TJ voted for switching back to the traditional court.

Guess I can't blame TJ since we've won our two games by an average of 35 points.
Self says he was not part of the decision to replace the floor, but agrees with the change.

I’m lazy and either breeze through the posts at a rapid pace or just skip to the last page because ain’t nobody got time to read through 6 pages about a court. Apologies if I missed your previous posts.

Yeah this could take away a distinct advantage our guys have by having had to walk around our campus all winter long on sidewalks similarly slippery (say that 5 times fast) as this court was.
Texas would have added a rule that no southern big 12 team has to play a northern team on this surface after 1/31

Just take the Hilton floor.
I love it!

True Story: The 1978 Final Four in St. Louis shipped in the Indiana Hoosiers home floor. Not sure why, but it would not be the first time! So, we might as well use the Hilton Court tonight and tomorrow night!

Kind of hoping the only floor they could get on short notice is like the Missouri Girls State Tournament floor or something.

I bet the lawsuits are already in the works. All the teams already out will swear that the floor cost them the chance to win and make the Sweet 68.
Heck, I'll bet there are Hok fans blaming this floor for their loss the TOSU yesterday....
;) :mccaffery:
