No longer can post images?

Why can’t I post pictures/images on my posts anymore? I just tried to do that (with the Attach Files) option and got the message I don’t have permission to access the file - then I reloaded the page and the “Attach Files” button had disappeared. What’s up?

EDIT: it appears to be just in the Trump Regime 2.0 thread? Or maybe the Cave in general? If I try to post an image here it works fine.

EDIT EDIT: It now in fact appears I’ve been limited from the opt-in political forums - they no longer show up in my feed. Have I been shadow banned or something?

Please read the new post in the politics forum. Any changes should only be reflected there and not impact the rest of the site. Please let me know if you encounter the same issues outside the Political forum.

Chris is trying his best to keep the political forum alive while dealing with some issues it has been creating far beyond any given post. Please respect his attempts to keep it alive and more removed from the rest of the site, as the alternative is getting rid of it altogether.

Everybody needs to remember that this is a huge site with a huge audience and all of that requires resources to operate freely. This isn't a hobby as it once was. Chris and I are working together to find solutions to help find a balance.

While politics is certainly a big part of our lives, and CF has tried for 20 years to allow people to have a place to openly discuss such topics, it brings a lot of potential legal, sponsor, and perception issues that weigh heavily on how things can be sustained. You might not understand some of those because specifics and examples need not be discussed, but it has created considerable harm and put things in jeopardy. That's why most communities banned all such topics 20 years ago, let alone as time has progressed. We try to be more open, but it can't bring down the empire.

Just as I did 20 years ago, Chris wants people to have a place to discuss freely. But there have been some issues over the years - more and more every year - that put much larger things at risk. Things have hit a new high recently and a few bad apples are trying to give the perception that CF endorses specific opinions or topics and are actively trying to cause harm.

Any changes being made are not to suppress discussion, it's to try and find a way to keep something special alive despite all the negative it brings.

We are working on changes iteratively. Unfortunately, this isn't the most flexible platform and it wasn't home built like back in the old days so there is a lot of trial and error. I used to be able to code anything to do everything people wanted, but we're more restricted by the platform.

Please be patient over the coming days as things may disappear, reappear, move, etc while we try and find the right combinations.

Again, please understand everything is being done to KEEP THE POLITICAL FORUM ALIVE despite the enormous risks and issues it creates outside the forums. The alternative is to just click a button to close it down, which we are trying desperately to avoid.

Seems like pulling the political forum off of pages of people who already opted in (which is what is seemingly described by Chris's post) is nothing more than suppression via inconvenience. Anyone who doesn't want to see the politics subforum already has that by default- you already opted everyone out site-wide awhile back and those who wanted to continue to use the politics board had to opt back in. I don't see how these changes actually are necessary given that. Someone complaining about the politics board necessarily already made the choice to see it.

Sure, but Chris is saying that people are posting “highly offensive” content and that not posting attachments is meant to combat that. I’m just not sure what that is referring to.

I believe I have some fixes in place that should be allowing you to see the cave posts in the same ways you always have, if you are opted in. The changes were not intended, but a defect while other things were being done.

There is a thread in the Political Forum that is discussing this matter and I am answering every question and trying to express that we are with you, not against you.

I'm closing this thread only because those that are/were having issues can now see and participate in the thread discussing the topic in the Political Forum. Thank you for understanding that we don't need 2 different threads discussing the same things when I can provide more context and transparency where those other discussions are taking place.

I have removed a lot of posts from this thread just because it is outside the Political Forum and relate to the discussions therein/of. Not trying to supress or censor anything as those same posts exist in the other forum.
