Unfortunately, this game went about like I thought it would without Addy Brown on the court.

I fear we may be without Brown the rest of the season. What Bill said in the post game didn’t sound too hopeful.

I am not suprised about the result today. But we are looking at a long skid unless something changes.

Crooks is both the strength and weakness of this team. Obvious ability to score but slow with no jumping ability which hurts defense, rebounding and the ability to score through taller players. Standford last year in the tourney just held their hands over her and blocked most of her shots. If she jumped into those outstretched arms, she would get the foul and free-throws. Needs to shed some pounds and gain some strength is she wants to continue to improve. With the injuries there are not enough playmakers. I don't watch all the games but find them to be extremely frustrating when I do watch.

Crooks showed a lot more effort rebounding and jumping today. Hence why she led the team in rebounding, Stanford was her freshman year. If you don’t think she isn’t strong…well…that’s another thing altogether.

Needs to shed a lot of pounds and get in better shape.

We are going to miss Addy for a lot of things, but I think rebounding might be number one. I think she was so consistent at getting 8-10 rebounds a game that it allowed others to not think about it as much. She made up a quarter of our rebounding per/game.

Audi adjusted a bit to get more rebounds vs WVU, but she is under the hoop the whole time so she can only get them if they rebounded down. We need a hunter for those middle-distance rebounds.

The dream of conference titles and hosting is over, but this is an opportunity for someone else on the team to step up.

Just need to take a breath and regroup, and maybe reformulate with the pieces that they have, which takes some time. Hopefully they'll get healthy sooner rather than later.
The timing of the injuries is brutal. If it was the non-conference there is time to adjust things, but with 2 games a week it's going to be hard to have the time to retool the offence and defense to account for missing AJ and Addy. Addy can't be replaced by any one player, she was too good, it's going to be a team effort.

100%. Players who start usually get a day off after a game. So this week that gives them on practice to prep for CU. one for OSU since I would guess Sat is a travel day.

This stat really jumped out of your report:
WVU scored THIRTY points off turnovers.

If we cut that in half, it is a different game.

That is where I would be focusing in practice.

A lot of the turnovers were of the dumb variety like trying to dribble through three defenders or forcing an entry pass that wasn't there. Reagan Wilson had zero turnovers in 28 minutes - she should have been POG. I thought Paulk had some good minutes as well.

I commented before reading your article. I see you made all these points already.

We still have one of the best post players in the nation and we have a former McDonald's All American at point guard. We have other players that are more than capable. I didn't care for the tone of Bill's press conference. This team can't pack it in due to the injuries. Bill's rotation had gotten pretty small over the last month and a half. Mostly playing 6 or 7 players. Now we have to have a roster reset. Bill has to figure out how to play with this new roster minus Addy and AJ. Players need to understand their roles. Bill has to make sure he has the best combinations on the floor together. In my opinion, Bill needs to return to the coach he was when he had a game plan for each team that put his team in the best position to win. What Baylor did to us with their junk defense is something Bill would have done 10 years ago. We need that Bill.

Thank you for your recaps, they are so so well done (coming from a Mass Comm Major/English Minor), they are very enjoyable to read. Long opinion short, even if/when ISU gets a healthy Addy Brown back......I've prepared myself for a very disappointing season. I appreciate your optimism that we'd be 4-1 or 5-0 with a 100% healthy Brown, I don't see that, and I definitely can't imagine that we will see some magical difference (improvement) in these players (or in particular, the coaching staff) to have great confidence in some turnaround that gives us hope for anymore than what......fingers crossed for the tournament? The conference was supposed to be weak this season on the women's side. We REALLY need to see some of that come to fruition sooner rather than later, but after losing to a very unimpressive Cincy team, sigh, not optimistic at all.

Believe me it’s easy to not be optimistic right now. Sounds like Brown is out for the duration if not the year. If that is the case there will be lots of bumps along the way. Some bright spots and some shield your eyes games.

And many thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated.
