Statistically between 30% and 40% of players who enter the portal don't get a division 1 offer.

I think we are at 47 who entered the portal. Roughly 15 to 20 of them are likely to not get a division 1 offer. Would you take them back if they wanted to return or let them populate the American Rivers Conference?
I think it’s completely dependent on how they interacted with the new staff. We can’t know that. I’d probably be fine with a few guys coming back when they realize they’ve overvalued themselves, assuming we need them to fill a role at that point.

Iowa Community College Athletic Conference would be my preference.

This, evaluate them against the other talent just as if they had never been here.

Its not all that surprising given that most of the guys who aren't fortunate enough to be chasing a check probably just want playing time. Think of it this way. Lots of guys who aren't playing at P4 school and want p.t. are transferring to MAC/Sun Belt schools to get it. The guys that aren't getting it there are transferring down a division to find it, etc...

What is the percentage for P4 players? And does this mean these guys are dropping all the way to D2 because FCS is still D1.
A quick search of the internet didn't revealed they don't get a division 1 offer and drop down. I could not find a percentage for p4 players who enter the portal.

Wow! Maybe CW & Blum are right when they say coaches would rather not have contracts, because I would think most of the players who drop are cut.

You take the best talent/fits you can get, from wherever you can get it. You don’t just take a player back because they were a P4 backup before.

It’s a rotating door. Players drop down because they weren’t getting playing time, or just weren’t as good as expected. Players move up because the were really good. Some move down, then back up again. Sometimes it’s just all situation. What’s the system, who are the other players. It’s common for an older starter to get hurt, and the younger backup be better and never let go of the starting job.

Probably not. If we have players on our 2025 roster who can't scrounge a D1 offer, they are probably a bottom of roster player who was never going to play for Campbell.

So I would prefer to give their scholarship to another portal guy, a JUCO or HS kid at the Feb signing date.

Id prefer JR to bring in his own players actually. With the way players are allowed to transfer I don't really care if he has to bring in 80 guys. As far as I'm concerned everyone who sticks around is a transfer they just don't have to move. The continuity is gone when the coach leaves anyway.

Depends why they left. If they left because Campbell left, no. If they felt they wouldn’t get playing time and wanted to try to find a starting spot but couldn’t, possibly.
Agree. Some probably just threw their name out there to see if there was any interest... and what kind of money they might be able to make. Just testing the waters... but still let ISU and Rogers know that they were in the running just like anyone else.

I'd take anyone like that back in a minute... if Rogers wants them at an agreed price.

But most of those guys that put out one of those BS AI announcements... basically say in those announcements "goodbye to ISU, I'm moving on".... so if they really mean that... then F 'em IMO.

Do we mean P4? Confusing thread is confusing.

Although I agree that many, many ISU players (recruits) entering the portal are in for a rude awakening.

THAT'S NOT WHAT MY AGENT SAID!!! He said I could triple my NIL bank account!

Let me show you, I'll call him, oh...huh, weird... it said number disconnected.....

The "underpaid" guys that most P4 teams would covet are mostly going to be Ped State Nittany Lions now...and I don't doubt the were underpaid and don't blame them for taking a pay raise to play for the same coach they already know.

I really think the majority of the others are a coin flip if they end up in a better or worse place both in terms of playing career and making money as college players. Iowa isn't for everybody in terms of a place to live, if they like it in Ames it's probably a gamble to leave, if they hate being in Iowa or Ames or a small midwest college town I don't blame them for rolling the dice on somewhere new.
