I've been thinking about the ACC tiebreaker situation with Duke making the title game and how terrible that could be for the ACC if they win (could be left out of playoff for another G5 team bad).

Could the Big 12 avoid a situation like this if there is a tie in the standings the best team rated in Massey composite gets the spot? Especially with conferences the size they are and not everyone playing each other. To me this feels like the most fair way to do it and you would end up with the better team in more often then not. Miami vs Duke and BYU vs Utah. https://masseyratings.com/ranks

Could still value head to head as the first tie breaker but after that default to Massey. Curious what everyone thinks.

If conferences were smart all tie breakers would be #1 head to head and #2 highest playoff committee ranked team.

You'll get similar results using the computers and frankly, it's the committee rankings that actually matter anyway. I think this was a a key tie breaker for many conferences in the BCS era (highest team in the BCS rankings went to championship game) not sure why conferences went away from it.

This just proves conferences are too big. You simply cannot compare records when the top teams only share 2-3 of the same opponents.
If I had it my way conferences would be limited to 9 members.

8 conference games (4 home and 4 away)

2 out of conference games vs power conferences (similar to basketball big 12/big east challenge. 7th place big 12 plays 7th place big ten, etc) 1 home and 1 away

2 whatever you want OOC games fcs or lower level conference buy games.

Give me 10 teams for 18 game basketball schedules, but otherwise I completely agree.

Or, as the toothpaste is out of the tube, go to 20 with 4 pods and you play your pod + one other with rotating other pods every year. Winners of the 2 divisions created by the pods play for the championship.
