Heacock made some kind of adjustment in last year’s game after KJ broke loose a couple times early. Once we stopped the run with our base 3 man front Iowa’s offense did nothing the rest of the game. This game comes down to that again — if we stop Iowa’s run game then we win this game, maybe by 10+. I think Gronowski will struggle mightily with 2nd and 3rd and long.

Defense is always a question mark and big discussion point against Iowa. I’m wondering if Iowa has the horses to slow down our offense which appears to be rather potent. Yes, we need to have a running game, but the tight ends can be difference makers.

Iowa always runs the ball to one side or the other, and when there isn’t a hole, the damn back cuts back and runs for 15 or 20 yards. Makes me crazy.

I believe the only position group that returned significant starters/playing time for Iowa’s D was their dline. They’ll be tough upfront, as usual. Can’t have a lot of negative rushing plays. I would assume the TE group will be a focal point/check down option, given the pressure of Iowa’s dline.

The improvement needs to come pretty quickly. He‘s coming from FCS and missed spring workouts and his recent reps were against Albany. Spectacular D from ISU isn’t necessary. Stop the run enough that the pass game is necessary and make Gronowski have a career day. If he does that, kudos to him because he doesn’t have the reps against FBS speed and talent.
