    ND practices have been awful

Thank you, and I wish that you’d have been treated to a better game against Clemson last year. The defense was where it needed to be, but ND’s offense just isn’t at the elite level yet. Hopefully soon. Regardless of what happened in the CW Bowl against ND, I think that Iowa State seems like...

Their potential is much greater than what I saw today. I thought that they played sloppy and that the OL could have played much better.

I thought that the defense played well. I thought that the offense was pretty average, and that they made a lot of the same mistakes that they did all year. The major difference was that the offense ran the ball better against you guys than they normally do against solid defenses. If I were...

Notre Dame also played Michigan on the road, in driving rain, and the defense got hung out to dry by an offense that put up something like 28 total yards in the first half and wore down. Sometimes you just have games where the team lays an egg, and it sucks. I can tell you that ND fans would...

    Eye Test

Take it for what it’s worth, but guys who cover the ND team made the same observation during the week when they were covering the various activities leading up to the game. Edit: Out of curiosity, how do the ND players compare to your experience with Oklahoma?

I will say that I was absolutely shocked that Tony Jones outran your defense for that long TD. He is really, really slow, and his lack of speed is a running joke on the ND boards.

Not sure if you're referring to my prior posts, but ND has struggled to run the ball this year against good defenses. They have been so bad at it that they didn't really even try to run against Georgia.

    Thanks and good luck

LOL. I usually behave myself unless it's on a Washington Huskies forum. They are the absolute worst. Most of the posters that I've interacted with here have been fantastic. It's nice to be able to discuss football in a civil, thoughtful way. It's not terribly common these days.

ND has the pieces returning to get to the playoffs next year, but they have to fix the offense and Ian Book needs to take it to the next level for that to happen. We get Clemson at home and Wisconsin at Lambeau in 2020. We'll see what happens.

    Thanks and good luck

It was nice chatting with all of you in the lead up to the bowl game. I thought that the game would be close, and actually predicted that Iowa State would win because of all of the turmoil that ND experienced with the firing of the OC. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the...

Agreed. Last year Georgia was bitter about missing the playoff, and instead of using it as motivation, they did the exact opposite and got beat by Texas. ND looks like they’re walking that same path.

    ND practices have been awful

Navy is always a statistical outlier because of the offense that they run. The Michigan game was in a monsoon, and they ran the ball down ND’s throat, so they didn’t need to pass. ND was very unconventional against USC. USC has three amazing WRs and a good QB, so ND actually defended them in...

    ND practices have been awful

That’s understandable. I think that ND should win the game, and it would not surprise me at all if it happens. I just think that ND is a dumpster fire right now.

Maybe, but it has only been two years. You could argue that Hiestand coaches the best LT (Ronnie Stanley) and the two best guards (Quentin Nelson and Zach Martin) in the NFL right now.
