    Happy 4th of July.

I apologize to my friends here. I mistakingly posted political comments here on the 4th. Mistakenly because I saw the thread headline, the various art and videos, and I had it in my head that I was in the political forum. Knowingly I would never violate the forum category rules, I believe in...

    Happy 4th of July.

The Declaration of Independance was an indictment of authoritarianism. Will this be our final 4th of July that commemorates our beginning, and our existence for 248 years?

Jalen Travis question (all is good, don't panic)

Really? Then define what a Covid year means? (Serious question because I don't know.) If he's got five years, and only played three? Isn't 2020 the equivalent of a redshirt year?

Jalen Travis question (all is good, don't panic)

I checked out his 2023 profile at Princeton. Jalen has a Covid year, 2020, and played in 2021, 2022, 2023. I take it he's in Ames to prepare and sharpen himself for the NFL. Probably not intending to stick here for two. Fair assumption? If so, happy to have him for one!

Ok, someone stop me! I love the Iowas, can't stop posting. Just ignore me. Launching of Iowa, August 1942 (she was laid down the same week Hitler did his little high step in Paris). Well done bit from the World of Warships channel. (Although the explanation of caliber is wrong. geesh).

What do you keep your AC on during the summer?

I'm crazy. Really, I suspected. heh I set it at 78 on uncomfortable humidity days and use ceiling fans and other fans, I'm so cool I sometimes think I'm cold.

I don't know it, though Navy oversight of all areas of development, design, construction by BuShips and other USN offices (I've kinda steered clear of the bureaucracy in my readings), I would make the assumption that every element that went into building a Navy ship was detailed in blueprints...

USS Iowa Pacific Battleship Center https://pacificbattleship.com/ Lots of interactive stuff, kids' overnite stays, STEM. All kinds of stuff. Also, Iowa is the home of the NMSN (National Museum of the Surface Navy), the first of its kind ever.

Uh, 350,000 pounds on the blueprints.

I've visited Iowa on three occasions, all prior to her opening as a museum ship. I recall looking through a hatch at either one of her turbines, or boilers, and imagining a torpedo slamming into the side so far below the water line.

I got it from the 1951 recommissioning brochure for USS Iowa before she headed to Korean war waters. That's all I got, unless it's also published elsewhere in documents and photos I have jamming full a file drawer. Or the dozen or so books on my shelves about the Iowa Class and predecessors...
