General (non-ISU) Wrestling Twitter/News Thread

Beth won't allow him at Iowa or he'd already have ended up there. Pretty crazy that Koll didn't make sure the University and AD were on the same page with bringing AJ in considering his history. Seems like a massive blunder
This is what I thought. You do your homework before reeling in a fish like that in the boat. Someone didn't communicate well on the UNC side. There couldn't of been something that wasn't already "known".

this is why it doesn’t make sense not to have legally binding contracts around NIL now. This is amateur hour stuff honestly and shouldn’t ever happen

Who said this was an administration decision based on research. It sounds like a couple key people which could easy have been major “non-wrestling” donors threatening to pull their money if AJ was on wrestling team. I’m sure administration knew exactly what the deal was and gave the ok originally. I’m just saying something similar could have been the scenario.

Wouldn’t those key donors be the same ones who are funding the $1.1m? I wouldn’t think the UNC program has that many million dollar donors? And if they had the money for him and you have a couple other smaller donors, you’d find more donors once AJ came in and helped elevate the popularity and status of the team, in theory.

I’m think non-wrestling multi-million $ donors that didn’t want AJ on their campus after the recently publish news. Just a theory because I’m sure Kohl vetted it with his administration.

Got ya, you’re talking non-wrestling donors. That makes sense I guess

First…this is not directed at you at all. Just using your post as part of a larger conversation.

I hate to do it, just because I don’t want to give it any attention, but UNC has a basketball player who was just found in violation of sexual misconduct. He has been suspended for a semester, but lost no basketball privileges. Just a semester suspension that will not at all impact his ability to play ball at UNC. Doesn’t seem that any “non-wrestling donors” care about that too much.

Just makes a person wonder, that’s all.

I doubt anyone was offering NIL contracts that weren't contingent on the athlete actually be accepted into school.

I believe it was a wrestling donor who finally got through to someone. I applaud that person.

Rutgers? Iowa needs a 197 but no way Beth allows that to happen.

She rejected him for a 2nd time two months ago. Nothing has changed since. Well, other than multiple other schools doing the same. Iowa did get Endene who should be solid but probably outside the podium next March.

As a fringe fan, what do you all that follow assume CSB was offering NIL wise?

You just contradicted yourself there though. Being academically accepted into the school and a donor stepping in and having a say if they want their funds going to AJ are two completely different things. Hence why I said binding contracts are absolutely necessary and it’s amateur hour without them in today’s world of sports

Hard to say but I’d assume they could come up with a couple hundred thousand for him. At the end of the day it is California and certain parts of California love their wrestling and there is money out there.

Probably pennys compared to what others would be willing to. It just takes one big donor so it’s hard to say. He wants a mil. He likely will get it eventually.
