This is completely unfair. I’m literally at an NIL conference with corporations trying to raise more dollars to help Iowa State. Appreciate the reasonable folks on here, stuff like the above is what causes CW and I to lose our minds.
Don't think I'd worry about pleasing that one, he started his posts in this thread complaining about not getting his money's worth on a completely free message board.

Agreed. I don't see a whole lot of incentive for a 5 star high school player to join a union. It's why I don't think the landscape is going to change much, going forward. They can't force a union on the players. And without one there's no CBA. And without a CBA, the restrictions that the schools would like to enforce are illegal.

At the same time, for all of the chicken little-ism going on, bemoaning the death of college athletics, we're still seeing high consumption of the product. The games this weekend had the highest ratings since 2017. A credible argument can be made that there really isn't a problem.

I do think there could be an incentive to a 5 star (or any athlete) to sign a guaranteed, multi-year contract. Which I don't think necessarily requires a CBA. Although it then comes down to the enforceability of non-competes, which is an open legal question these days.

Compared to the past, I don't think we're necessarily worse. But I think to make things better, the best path would be:
1) Multi-year agreements with buyouts
2) Allowing fans to benefit from "donations" by having them go to the athletic department and moving the payment to players to within the AD. Basically cutting out the collectives as much as possible. I'd also get rid of the tax deductibility of athletics donations as I don't really view it as a non-profit.

Yes to #2. JJ should have to come to my house for dinner.

Yeah it really sucked getting a free degree, room and board, tutoring, athletic training etc...
The value of all that is not the point. The point is that they were artificially capped at only that.

Imagine you're a CPA and you are getting paid $100k per year. Not bad, but now let's say that all of the accounting firms decided that $100k is the max that CPAs can make. You can quit and go to another accounting firm, but they're still only going to offer you $100k. That's the part that's wrong. You're getting screwed because of the artificial limitation, regardless of if $100k is a fair wage for a CPA,

Ignore, block, mute the idiots.
1. Because their reach is compounded and you’ll think their number is more than they are.
2. Highly unlikely the idiots are giving. They’re clearly not understanding or supporting your goals.
3. They’re strangers on a message board and don’t deserve your attention by being ash*les.

Follow Jamie’s lead and live your best life.

My understanding is that both were 1.5-2 million, but to me that's not mind blowing. If you do the math on Duke's current roster, it's not far off of Ohio State Football's number. The only eye popper so far (imo) has been Dybantsa at 7M
Will this change prep athlete focus?

Going pro is not a guarantee, but getting DI. Scholarship is within reach for many for.

One route you’re one of 60-120 guys getting mild CTE, smaller slice of NIL pie. The other you’re 1-9 guys making 6-7 figures being somewhat competitive in your position.

Nice of you to find a little time between your beachside massage session and tequila tasting to fill us in.
He’s probably getting the happiest of endings. Just laughing at us all. Burning 100 $ bills. What has this world come to? Do I even care about college sports?

Numbers 10 thru 15 on the BB bench, anybody after number 70 on the FB depth chart and any Olympic sports athlete should be damn glad they get a scholarship. Heck wrestling has ran on partial schollies for years I believe.

It really doesn't matter that much to me my season tkts, some Ames Lager and some Wewill pizza is all I can afford to help.

I'll continue to be a ISU fan until I can't afford to then I'll watch them on TV.

None of that is the point, though. What you or I think they should or shouldn't be feeling about their compensation means exactly ****. The very fact that you draw a line between players in your example, is perfect evidence of what I'm talking about. You acknowledge that players 1-9 on the basketball team are different than players 10-15, in skill, in ability, in value, etc. But until recently, the best player on the team, which we've already acknowledged has more value, had their compensation restricted to the same as the #10 player on the team and had no ability to get a better deal. That's about as clear cut of an antitrust violation as you can get.
