Nelson’s 3P% doesn’t look exciting on the surface, but his game logs show he still likes to shoot them, attempting 2.5 per game. Maybe there’s an adjustment they believe they can fix

I went to school in the 80s when I had the entire upper deck to myself. Anything is possible.
Only in the second half of those games. Everyone showed up for the start of the games, upper deck was usually pretty full. But everyone bailed by halftime because we were inevitably getting stomped on the field and most of the students were piss drunk by 2:30PM. Not surprising when your team stinks and you've been drinking since starting up your tailgate at 6AM that morning.

Gonna try a little of everything and see where the biggest $pla$h is, I suppose.
It feels gross, but he’s probably doing the right thing. If he gets evaluated as a first rounder, makes sense to go. If not, it’s probably not going to change in a year, so get the biggest check/best opportunity since this may be the last chance. The current system may suck, but he’s probably playing it correctly.

I agree logically. But yeah man that feels gross. But then again, these guys are getting paid now. If you aren't NBA bound, then take your shot while you have it.

Agree. It’s a whole new world. Maybe one of the few pluses is some very good players stay in college longer than they would have.

I think the willingness to shoot them is a pretty important factor. IMO, teams sagging off of Lipsey his freshman year was just as much about his hesitancy to shoot threes as it was about his percentage from three. Every time he was open and had to think about whether to shoot it, it proved to opponents' defenses that they made the right decision in not bothering to guard him out there.

A willingness to chuck and miss threes is NOT going to stop teams from sagging off.

Put a pile of money out there and these college institutions will trample over each other trying to get a bigger piece of the pie- including the self-righteous B1G Conference.
In fairness, Ohio State is not self-righteous. Neither is Nubs or Penn St. But I would probably agree UM, IU, and a few others are.

At a certain point, no. But if you watch Nelson's highlights, he certainly wasn't getting the same treatment that Tamin got his freshman year.

One additional factor is that a college season is a pretty small sample compared to what you might see in the NBA, especially for low-volume shooters. Many college defenses naturally assume that if a player is taking a shot in the normal flow of the offense, it's a shot he can make. Nelson shot 25% on 87 three-point attempts all of last season. Tyrese Haliburton started off this past NBA season shooting 27% on his first 85 three-point attempts before shooting 41% on his next 188. I am NOT saying that Nelson will ever shoot like Tyrese. But because of the pretty small sample in a college season, as long as a player is still shooting confidently, defenses have to keep in mind that he may just be in a slump.

I'm also not saying that Nelson should keep shooting that much if he's still shooting 25% from three. But if a player is ever going to shoot them, he has to shoot them confidently. To me, that was a big factor that Tamin was lacking in his freshman year.
