I'll be skeptical of how legitimate the clearing house will be until I see the results with my own eyes.
You think they hired deloitte to pass through all of this booster cash? They want that money back in the athletic departments.

It's just not worth worrying about.

I am an Iowa State fan first and foremost. I love going to games @ Hilton and @ Jack Trice Stadium and nothign is going to change that.

I've sat through AWFUL football and Basketball seasons, but I still enjoyed going to the games.

In the mean-time, I am glad that we have MC and TJ to steer the football and basketball ships during this turbulent time - which will eventually pass (one way or the other).

Let's Go State!

:bugle:
This is what it should be about. College athletics have become a business and it's all about the money now. It feels like the fans no longer matter. I am going to stop watching college football and basketball games other than ISU, because all the fun of what college sports used to be has completely disappeared.

We will never compete with the big money. Need to develop high school players and find diamonds in the rough from mid majors to be successful. TJ did fine without Tyrese Hunter, we'll be fine without Jefferson.

$20.5 for now. It will go up. Some can’t afford $20.5. The gap will continue to grow.
Maybe. But that $20.5m puts everyone more on par for now.

These NIL amounts are insane because this system goes away as soon as the d.ct judge signs off on the settlement.

Why even recruit high school kids? If they aren't good enough to play right away they leave. If they are any good they leave.

Finding freshman for the most part is worthless. Most of the time they are small contributors or non contributors and as soon as they show and flashes they get offered the big money and leave. Hope there’s another Tamin at Ames high right now, otherwise, waste of time.

I am pretty sure you can get NIL on top of that. Schools will find ways.

I'm saying I still watch because as of this moment I feel like ISU is able to compete somewhat in college athletics... but maybe I'm being too optimistic in that feeling? I feel like without the injuries our MBB team could have possibly made it to the Final Four with few breaks. The WBB was competitive, etc, etc.

But if we just continue to lose our best players... and eventually all that is left is the B1G and SEC... and everyone else is in a separate lower level league.... I will not be watching any of this crap. Guarantee you.

And I've watched less college football and basketball this year than any other year I can ever remember... and it has actually been pretty great.
I agree. If it comes down to the $EC and B1G being a super league I won’t watch them. I’ll cheer for ISU in whatever league/level they’re in but my interest level won’t be nearly as high.
I could probably use the time back to place more focus on the real things that matter in life like my family. The amount of money that people throw at kids to play a game for the team that represents the school they attended is ridiculous.

But the problem is if we develop them well, they are going to be poached by big money schools....

The salary cap is $20.5M as soon as the district court settlement is approved with the exception of legitimate NIlL cleared through the clearinghouse.
There is no guarantee it's going to go the way you think it it is either. Even if the ruling goes that way there are almost certainly going to be appeals. You know this is more complicated than one ruling fixing this. Love the optimism though.

But it might cost less to keep them.

Again, football is different---the fact that it is 100 players vs 13---but think of all the really good young players we have managed to keep because they like Iowa State, they like the coaches, they like that they develop here. I'm not even thinking of Rocco. But guys like Brahmer, Noel, Tampa, etc. That's our niche in football and maybe it can be part of the strategy in basketball. TJ's original strength was recruiting high school kids.

Only nil vetted through the clearinghouse. Jefferson isn’t getting paid $2m to sell chainsaws in baton rouge.

Like the before times, schools will find a way to get around any cap that is eventually decided on. But I do think it will be better over all.

The people on this thread are reporting the team in question is LSU. If you are in the know and it's a quick Google, LSU is a poverty program year over year.
Are they a passionate fanbase, no doubt. But they are an alum base that doesn't have the donor $$ to go crazy in portal. Amazingly even with sec allocation they lose money every year.
Not to mention a garbage Academic institution

Honestly he should just leave and take the 3 mil. That’s life changing money and he would be set if he manages it right.
I would not blame him for taking nearly $3M. It sucks. I absolutely want him back but that is life changing.
