Translation: We Are Broke
Brent said on the pod it was the highest offer they've given a portal guy. I know it's crazy but not everyone is going to pick Iowa State and Purdue has a lot to offer too (especially to a 7 footer). They've been a top tier program for a long time.

I haven't listened to the podcast yet, so I don't have a sense of the numbers.

But yeah, it's perfectly reasonable for a post to look at an offer from Purdue and an offer from Iowa State and say, "I want to go to the program that has made big men a focal point of their offense for the past decade plus."

They also have more competition in the front court. 7’2” Jacobsen returns and is good. Plus the two other young centers that played a little this season, and Kaufman-Renn at the 4.

Maybe we should offer Jacobsen

So we have that much for another transfer then? Let’s go get a star player then. Someone will take our money

An athletic two-way player at the two or three?

But we already have returning “starters” at the 1-3. Plus our best transfer would be Rohde, if we’re lucky enough. Add Williams. And two freshmen that we want to develop. 7 guys for 3 spots.

We need more offense, yet we kind of have a “stacked” roster. Not in the sense it’s as good as the top teams, but valid candidates at every position…except center.

So it makes sense they tried to go all-in on a bucket getter, all-conference type at center. It was the only position in which there wasn’t someone to move out of the rotation

Sigh

Maybe we can trade Milan and Buchanan to Purdue for Cluff and CJ Cox?

I don’t expect the Mulder kid to be a star but he is going to make the team exponentially better in practice and with his motor in close games. Grabbing 4-5 timely rebounds would have dramatically changed our season and I think he is the type of player to do just that.

Also, Batemon is a pure shooter. He made 16 3’s in ONE HALF this year! I’d be shocked if he isn’t starting by conference play next year.

I'm really enjoying KU becoming a borderline Top 25 program as soon as "everyone can pay their players above-water" is in full swing. Hope it keeps up!

I forget which game but in some broadcast earlier this year they were struggling and the blowhard commentator said that the senior leaders need to get everyone together in the locker room and remind them what it means to wear KU on your jersey. I had a good chuckle at that. What it's meant to wear "KU" on your jersey is you were getting a bag from Adidas.

Here is a list of next year's players. Bold are probable starters IMO. Next 4 are playable subs.

1-2 Lipsey
2 Bateman
3-4 Milan
4-5 Jefferson
5 Buchannon

2-3 Heise
4 Pleta
1-2 TBA Gilbert type
5 TBA Ward or BRE type

2 Clour
4 Mulder
3 Williams
3 Mitchell
A number of insiders/experts believe Toure will be most ready to play as a true frosh. Great defender already and developing O game. Shot 95% from the line this year per Bret Blum. You don’t have him mentioned.

Cluff on campus today and W&B talking about him on the Sunday pod like he just died.

Everybody should be able to read the tea leaves here. I bet the campus visit is kind of awkward!
