When I posted, the radars were not showing anything that close to the west metro. Looks like it popped another front in front of the main one that wasn't shown when I looked.
That cell has been heading straight north for about an hour, so was most certainly on the radar when you posted 14 minutes ago. Sirens are meant to be an advanced warning system, so it sounds like it was solid execution of them to me as they made you investigate what the potential hazard was prior to it reaching you.

I got caught outside in a Polaris Ranger when the front hit. Took an hour to go thru and the backside has some serious straight wind. The front does too but not like the backside. I watched a steel roof on a shed get loosened. Some rain but not really measurable. I’m headed to see if our grain bins are OK. We’re 38 miles NE of Maryville Mo, 15 miles on the Iowa side.

Sirens just went off in urbandale. Anyone have any insight? Wasn't that windy, and nothing showing on radar that would prompt that.

Went off in Johnston too, but we're not in the warning. Polk Co. dispatch doesn't sectorize their sirens too well. Often over does the footprint.

I am sick of people like you whining about sirens and saying that too many sirens are desensitize people to them. That is dangerous and I don't care if you think I am a ****.
Nah. Turning an emergency tool into a nonemergency tool will only make people ignore it. Sorry if that offends.

See that's just the thing, The misconception is that they are an emergency tool and they in fact are not. They are a warning system and a warning does not equal an emergency. The idea is that they notify you before it becomes an emergency.

Literally just asked a question, because none of the local networks were cutting in, and I didn't see anything on the weather channel radar. You apparently are the individual making the siren calls, so I guess you're sensitive to any mild criticism of them. Sorry for having an opinion. I'm glad you don't care that you're a ****. As long as you're self aware.

Here we go again. Warning for only a sliver of Polk Co. but dispatch triggers sirens everywhere. Going off in Johnston for no reason.
